You might recall I've mentioned the Focus RS I owned and traded in on my GT. I still hang out in our RS forum besides here. Saw this shocking post of a deadly force assault on one of our Canadian forum members this AM.

Some homeless person attacked Johnny yesterday by throwing a cricket bat at him at close range. Fortunately; Johnny had seen the attack coming and had already started his RS moving, so instead of the bat impacting the drivers window it hit the drivers side rear door window. Exploding glass all over Johnny and the interior. Johnny sustained no, or minor injuries; stopped for a moment; considered his response options then drove home and contacted the police.

🤬 And I though deer and turkey encounters were dangerous in my area! WTF?!

There is something to be said for living in a "stand your ground" state.
So you'll shoot mentally ill homeless guy because he threw a cricket bat at your car? A window isnt worth a life. Thats what insurance is for.

As a Canadian member. I will tell you the police will not do a thing. Homeless in Vancouver are treated like special citizens who can do what everything they want with no consequences. Instead of getting them off the streets they just lowered the speed limit to 10 mph so you don't hit one wondering down the middle of the road hallucinating.

Pretty easy taking a life, huh?
Agreed. A guy can just whip a cricket bat at your head and do the job, right? No repercussions of living in a society where your actions have no consequences. On the other hand, if the cricket bat thrower knew that perhaps the RS driver could actually defend himself, maybe he doesn’t throw the bat to begin with…

OK! Didn't mean to stir anything up. 😉

As I stated in my response to Johnny's OP; he reacted correctly to the incident by driving away and reporting it.

There would have been no credible claim of "self defense" if Johnny had engaged in any post attack violence on the perp. Especially given Johnny's perception of the state of law enforcement, prosecution, and social/cultural value in HIS AREA.

The attack was certainly with intent to injure, if not worse, but Johnny's quick perception and reaction to the bat throwing prevented either. 👍 And it resulted in minor or no injury to Johnny, and none to the perp. Considering the seriousness and violence of the attack; that's a very good outcome.

Johnny's hitting the gas gave him a precious commodity. More time--always a good thing in a violent encounter. And he used it wisely----the result? No legal, financial, or criminal fallout for Johnny!

Once the bat had blasted the window, there was no further attack on Johnny or his RS (due to Johnny's quick reaction). Here is a LIFE TRUTH; if they're not actively attacking/menacing you (with or with out a weapon) and there is a reasonable means of egress/leaving for you; getting a self defense/justified use of force/deadly force argument to fly is exponentially more difficult..

Did the perp deserve a fill in the blank? Oh yea. Johnny took the best case option for himself, and not the perp.

You didn't! Im glad the mods stepped and I'm sorry it went sideways for a minute.

Its a scary situation for sure. Sucks about the window, but that could have been so much worse. Sounds like he did the right thing. Life definitely throws curves at you. Im glad no one was hurt.
