I stopped using active cruise on my last car. It would roll off the gas, or even brake as you pulled out to pass. You could pull out 100 metres before passing to avoid this, but I prefer living.

Jesus. What communist state is this?
North Dakota.

It's not very communistic at all though, really. Very very conservative.

The state is also primarily rural with only a handful of 'major' cities. Population wise, the entire state probably has fewer people than the city of Chicago. So the cops don't have a whole lot to do other than traffic enforcement.

Damn! If you're 5 or 6mph over the limit here, you're getting a ticket. 2 over on the interstate, which is already an 80mph limit, nets a roadside visit as well. The only upside to any of this is that the fines are dirt cheap. However, any ticket that earns you a single point on your license will be reported to your insurance company. That's an unfortunate rule they just changed within the last few years, it used to be that it had to be 3 points.
Damn, that's not right! Here in PA, 10 miles over is acceptable, most of the time. They get cranky when you get 20+ above! Glenn

We used to be able to get away with 10 over as well, but over the past decade or so they've been slowly increasing the speed limits and thus started cracking down on what they'll let you slide on.
Two lane highways (1 lane in each direction w/o a median) has a 65mph limit. Four lanes (2 lanes each direction with median) has a limit of 70mph, with the exception of the Interstates where the limit is 80mph.

I guess they figure we're already going fast enough. 🤷‍♂️

Makes sense to me in a way. Here in Maryland, 2-lane highways are typically 55, but we're good up to 9-12 mph over. 4-lane and Interstates are usually 65 mph unless going through a congested area, same allowance over. I-95 is usually faster, especially with people passing through from other states.

I am in Georgia. The state legislature restricted the use of speed detection devices to writing tickets for only more than 10 over. That applies to city and county, but not State Patrol, but it is just sort of customary here that 15 over is the point at which they will pull you over. You may or may not get a ticket when doing 17 over, as I was caught doing on the way home, above.

It is much smarter for me to use cruise control, even though the active cruise control drives me a little bonkers. It does keep me from getting tickets, because I will drive too fast, not even paying attention. I have to really concentrate to stay within 15 mph of the speed limit in most situations.

You can simply leave it engaged and press the gas pedal to override some of the "back off". I do this all the time if I suspect a slow moving turtle is about to move left to pass an even slower moving turtle.

Damn. We have 2 lane roads signed at 75.
Your law makers and law enforcers are colluding for revenue generation. It's not uncommon and happens here too but you can't simply kill it all at once, you have to chip away at it.

You also have highway signs that say things like, Get out of the left lane. Don't hold up Texas.

I thought it was great.

My state has signs that say things like Slower traffic keep right.

Of course, everybody thinks "I am not slower," so they all stay left.
We have those bloody idiots too. Doing 20 under and ignoring the slow vehicle passing bays.
Maybe they should rename them to " drivers saving the planet bays".

I've been known to, on occasion, get in front of someone who is pissing everyone off going under the speed limit in the left lane, downshift, and clutch kick rocks at them. Happens more often if someone is tailgating me though.

I've often wished I had a half dozen eggs in the centre console. Ever tried to get sun dried egg off paint? Worse than dried seagull shit.

As a matter of fact, long ago when I was a newly declared adult, I met a girl that had just broke up with her boyfriend... and, you know, hung out at her house overnight, anyway when I woke up someone had egged my car overnight. There was no getting anything off. It ate through the paint.

1 guess who the somebody was. I hope she was worth it.
I lost a tail light for the same reason.
But the worst was when I started dating a cops ex-wife. I started to get followed around by cops at night ( it was a small town), there were a couple of BS breath alcohol checks, so I contacted the area Police Commander and, just like magic, the BS stopped.

Those signs in the NE are few and far between. And those who are divinely ordained to drive in the left lane won't heed their message anyway. Glenn
