Ford does not release sales data for 3 years after the model year ends, do it will be September 2027 until I can find out what sort car I have out of those 44,253 cars produced.
Now if we look to 1970, there were 198,239 Mustangs made of all varieties.
159,145 in 1987
122,647 in 1996
158,180 in 2007
122,349 in 2015
By 2021 the numbers were in the 55,000 range
You need to be able to recoup your tooling, R&D costs, regulatory compliance, etc plus benefit from economies of scale. That is hard to do when you are making less than 50,000 units. It is even harder when you are not sharing those parts with a lot of other vehicles in the production lineup.
