The Mustang is also becoming less popular every year
less than 45,000 units last year, this years sales are no better

Ford does not release sales data for 3 years after the model year ends, do it will be September 2027 until I can find out what sort car I have out of those 44,253 cars produced.

Now if we look to 1970, there were 198,239 Mustangs made of all varieties.

159,145 in 1987

122,647 in 1996

158,180 in 2007

122,349 in 2015

By 2021 the numbers were in the 55,000 range

You need to be able to recoup your tooling, R&D costs, regulatory compliance, etc plus benefit from economies of scale. That is hard to do when you are making less than 50,000 units. It is even harder when you are not sharing those parts with a lot of other vehicles in the production lineup.

Curious how many 25 Camaros the true competition to the mustang did they produce? Stop comparing hypercars to a pony car it not a fair or close competition.
well I think the number of 2025 Camaro's of all trim levels made was zero

Plus the only vehicle make at the Mustang plant, the Mustang.

And, they only run one shift, 5 days a week.

They were supposed to start doing an EV in 2023, but I guess that never happened.

The time is relevant. What isn't is your comment on corporate greed. You don't know that, but it makes you feel better to say it. Sales are not going to wildly jump up unless prices wildly go down (which will be helped by the recent incentives NOT tuning). You overlooked that part of your assessment.

Look, I get where you are coming from. You want the car to remain affordable for the majority and so do I. However, I also want the car to improve and to compete with the best of them (you obviously don't). Camaro and Challenger/Charger are no longer the competition, so who is? BMW and Porsche.

Ford is doing the right thing, and they are providing a tier of models to meet every budget and yet some people are going to be priced out. That's not corporate greed, that is survival of the fittest.

It bears repeating... Mustang is the number one sports car in sales by far. Farley and Ford know this. What you see as trash and struggle they see as successful achievement. So do I.
Challenger and Charger are on their way back with the Hemi and if the current political climate stays the same I wouldn't be surprised to see the Camaro come back. You have the Supra and the Z that are also competition on the Japanese side of things. You know things are bad for for the Mustang when you have guys cross shopping them with the C8 because they're so close in price yet are nowhere near the performance level. Lemme guess and say you're a Dark Horse owner. If so I know all I need to know about you.

You really need to take a breath and chill bro. People are allowed to have different opinions. I can see your blood pressure rising with every post. Lol

Nah all cool over here just casual banter. He's done the same with you. He seems like a die hard Ford fanboy so any little slight someone posts against Ford he posts a comment. You sir can have a lovely day.

Honestly, I think you both have some good points. But the "casual banter" is turning into a pissing contest. šŸ˜‰

Ford is looking ahead, not laterally. Besides C, C and C have all had their lines discontinued, then come back, discontinued, then come back. So, what went wrong, the first, second and soon to be third time? That's not a successful recipe to be chasing.

Last I checked, the Supra is a BMW in sheep's clothing and the Z car including the Nismo (as much as I do like it) has missed the mark in so many ways. Again, not good examples for Ford to pin their hopes on.

Price is not a good barometer of performance or quality. If you recall when the C8 Stingray hit the scene at under $60K it took the automobile world by storm for its pricing, but it was also built like crap. To get attention you sometimes need to make a statement which Chevy did but you also get what you pay for. Frankly, I think the ZR1 is priced too low and I think Chevy is again playing by their old play book.

The GTD is every bit the level that the ZR1 is but in the corners rather than in the straights. Strap another 200 HP on the GTD it would be no contest. But if Ford takes their cue from the GT3, then they can hopefully do more with less. We shall see.

It really isn't much of a stretch for someone to know what I own, after all it's in my signature. So if you had to guess then you don't know anything.

Last I checked this was a Mustang forum. It should be obvious to you that I am a Ford fan boy as I have much as said it and proud of it. I am also 100% American patriot and damn proud of that too!

Don't rope @AZ_Ryan into your shenanigans. Our discourse was not about trash talking the Stang but rather about acceptance that Ford can compete with the best of them. Even though the realities of that are a bit out of reach for many of us. Big difference sir!

Did they ever go back and get a faster time with a modified GTD?

Haven't heard much about the GTD lately.

Is it not racing season in Germany right now?

It really stings to tell someone;
"I just got a new Mustang!"
and hear in response;
"Oh awesome! They're electric SUVs now, right?"

https://www.thedrive.com/news/ford-ceo-says-game-on-mustang-gtd-going-back-to-nurburgring

The cars are actually pretty close in lap time, and before anyone says oh well the ZR1 was driven by an engineer, those engineers have hundreds if not thousands of laps of seat time in those Corvettes, who had WAY more seat time than Dirk had with the GTD prior to his run, they're racing drivers who basically live at the track. So the drivers were pretty evenly matched.

The ZR1 and ZR1X beat the GTD by 2-3 seconds, that's close enough where Ford could take it back if they get some more practice in, and make some further improvements to the car. This is getting interesting and I'm all here for it.
Yeah the Corvette has the power advantage (by a lot), but the GTD clearly isn’t maxed out yet. First real attempt and it already dipped under 7, then found more time right after. There’s probably still a chunk left in setup + driver familiarity alone. Kinda funny how this whole Mustang vs Corvette rivalry feels like a high-stakes poker game where both sides are just raising the bet every round. Farley’s ā€œgame onā€ vibe reminds me of sitting at a blackjack table, pushing chips in and hoping for that perfect hand while everyone watches. At the end of the day, it’s all about risk, money, and who lands the jackpot, just like in a casino. Speaking of that, if you’re into that same adrenaline rush, I’ve been checking out this solid breakdown of bonuses and promos lately JeetCity promo code and it actually feels like getting insider info before placing a bet. Whether it’s cars or roulette spins, the thrill is in the gamble, and right now both Ford and Chevy are going all-in like pros chasing that final big win.
