PPF on matte surfaces.

Hello everyone, I can’t seem to find anyone really detailing their choices when it comes to applying PPF to the matte painted surfaces on their Darkhorses. For example the matte portion of the bumper and the matte finished mirror covers, I’ve been talking to an installer who says there is risk of damage to the matte paint saying it could “delam” when pulling and adjusting the film. Has anyone had PPF applied to these surfaces and what was your experience?

Its not a good idea. On the Mach 1s, most people cut around the stripe, or did the stripe ontop of the PPF. The problem is PPF doesn't adhere well to a matte surface. It can bubble or delaminate.

My PPF guy said there is a matte PPf and he's used it, it works well. He didn't say he's had to remove any though.

Matte PPF refers to the PPF finish, not what its applied to.

Yes. I asked my guy about PPF for matte finishes and he talked about special matte PPF, I was considering it until I saw the price of the matte paint option

I went with XPel and they covered my matte surfaces with the Stealth PPF, can't even tell it's there.

Yes guys, i have xpel stealth on matt, works perfect!

You can definitely get this protected with a satin/matte PPF like XPEL Stealth. As long as it is a good product and quality installation, I wouldn't worry too much about it peeling any paint once removed as long as you don't keep the film on past its usable life.

I had xpel applied to the front of my car, gloss over all the paint, and stealth (matte) ppf over anything matte. The stripes were covered in matte ppf, along with mirrors, and the grille and sections of the bumper. There are no issues doing ppf over the stripes, find a competent installer. Xpel has pre cut templates for the darkhorse and the stripes line up well but there is around 1/4 inch of unprotected paint on the hood for where the precut film is for the painted sections. You won’t notice it but it is a little annoying spending that much money for it not to be perfect

It looks more matte from certain angles in pictures but in person, it looks most like that pic of my suspension laying on the hood. Didn’t mean to add the pic with the headers

Wow I wasn’t expecting so many replies, thanks everyone for your feedback and pictures. Gotta say everyone has got some sick rides on here! I think im going to go for it and have the matte portions wrapped from what I’ve seen here it looks amazing and honestly I’d be so bummed if any of the painted surfaces got a chip.
