This is old news, but anyone into electronics (like myself) will be familiar with Louis Rossmann on Youtube, who brought this up today, and the Ford patent gets a mention.

As if ads on YT and everywhere else aren't already bad enough, this crap has to stop.
Period.

I would not buy any vehicle from any manufacturer that implements this - this included you, Ford.

This story about the Subaru and the SiriusXM BS is mind blowing.

Ads have gotten out of control, especially on youtube. I like to throw a video on as background noise when I'm lifting or tinkering with something and some ads are straight up hour long podcasts about junk I couldn't give a single damn about. People are like, "hurr durr get YT Premium or jUsT sKiP iT". How about you remember when YT had no ads period or at worst they were two that lasted 15 seconds each. Nothing beats having to listen to that garbage while I'm in the middle of a set or interrupting washing my car, etc, to hit skip.

Sometimes sitting on a patent keeps it under control. In vehicle ads would require connectivity which would be the first to go if forced.

On November 13m 2014, AP ran an article by Joan Lowy titled CARMAKERS UNITE AROUND PRIVACY PROTECTIONS. Pieces and parts of it are on the web (I have the complete article, but publishing it here would violate federal law). As the article points out, 19 world-wide automakers (including Ford) joined a pact to agree that ads sent to automobile would be both self-serving and potentially distracting. If my memory is correct, copies of the pact went to every congressman and most of the administration personnel as well, with added emphasis to the NHTSA, FCC and the SEC.

Also mentioned in the article, was the fact that AT&T, Verizon, et. al. were buying up all of the old analog cellphone frequencies in the 800-900 and 1200-1300 MHz bands. The plan was to use the frequency bands to allow communications between vehicles and traffic signal units. This as a means of alerting drivers (and automated vehicles) of traffic hazards such as accidents, road closers, etc. This said, it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to see the underlying strategies, especially in view of those companies buying the frequency slots!

As mentioned, the number of ads seen on YouTube, every single news outlet's apps and URLs, Sirius-XM, et. al. have become to the point of ad-nauseam, with no pun intended!

Interesting enough, the FCC sets limit for public airways broadcasting with respect to the number and length of ads, infomercials, PSA, etc. Although they're also in charge of broadband methodologies, they have yet to limit ad space for these means of communication. While Ford does have patents (as do other manufacturers in other countries) covering the subject, I agree it was their way to partly control the spread of in-your-face advertising.

From a personal point of view, the myriad (there is that 'ad' again!) of misleading, downright lying, and in some cases addicting propaganda, is making me wonder if George Orwell is still alive and kicking?!

When someone else pays you to use your patent to their peril who are you to complain?

didn’t mean that the way it came out if you know what i mean.

As a friend of mine would say... Zactly! Everyone I have ever conversed with, when the topic was advertisements, have complained about the situation. No one likes the intrusion, and it is getting annoyingly worse. Part of the issue is simply the changes within the advertiser's choice of media. Many magazines have switched to on-line versions, as have numerous newspapers. Broadband has given us the ability to pick and choose what we watch. Local television news outlets have been replaced in a large part by social media. Not that they're a good source of information, but because there is a lack of ads and the simple fact people like the personal interaction. Or should I say distraction from obviously a myriad of advertisements. Advertisers faced with this scenario, it is no wonder to me why the search for more viable (?) means are being explored.

Stellantis is already doing this shit.

The second Ford does it I'm dumping my mustang and will never buy another one of their products.

I've already stopped going to a certain brand of gas station because they play ads at the gas pump.

This is just more shit being forced upon the average consumer and there isn't enough pushback on it. Just like the decision to make everything touch enabled in a car, and removing physical buttons.
