4:10 Gear - Would you do it again?

I have been thinking about installing 4:10 gears in my Mustang.
I have a 2025 Mustang Gt manual transmission with 3:55 gear now.
My Mustang is not my daily driver but my weekend worrier [back roads/twisty canyon ride].

For those of you that have installed the 4:10 gear in your Mustang, would you do it again?

I don't own a GT, but looking at the ratios in the higher gears, perhaps 3:73 would be best depending on the average speed. The 4:11 ratio is perhaps better-suited for the drag strip.

I was thinking about making the change to 3:73, but my thoughts were to just keep it at 3:55 due to the cost/performance gain between the two.

The ratio will actually be 4.09.

doubt many people have done it on the S650 but the 2018 and newer cars have the same transmission ratios and 4.09 was done plenty of times, head over to Mustang6g.com and have a look

My supercharged 6 spd Dark Horse has 3.73 gears they are fine for all around driving. My 06 Mustang GT has a Tremec 6 spd and 4.10 gears they make the car more perky to drive around and with the 6 spd it is fine on the highway. They are both good ratios the 4.10 will just be easier to spin off the line. 3.73 are best for over all driving in my opinion.

Can't really compare your Dark Horse as the ratios are completely different than the GT

you might be closer to the T56 ratios you had in the 2006 (depending on if you had 2.93 or 2.66 fist gear...) but first is still going to be taller

If you read the article my 06 has a Tremec magnum xl in it. Also I was not trying to compare the two just what I noticed about the drive.

The 3:73 in my Darkhorse is great. I agree that the 3:55 isn't enough.

i agree i have the 301a gt with the 3:55 other than the odd occasion it always feels meh, its hard to define but you need to rev in way more than you should. i know its only like 10% difference or so maybe less but there is a notable difference. driven my friends with the 3:73 and it just movers out faster.

Other than my Mustang, my other fun car is a '62 Corvette fuelie. It's a 4-speed, of course, with a 4:11 rear end. Fun car around town and loafing on country roads but that 327 is screaming on an interstate at 70 mph.

4.10's are not going to do any good if you can't get the engine spinning at 4500 to 5000 RPM's

You will see people like Frieberger and Finnegan talk about running out of gear, or not having the right gear to be where the engine is making power.

If you put 4.10's in and the engine is not making power because it is not getting to the sweet spot where the cam, intake, headers, etc you'd be better off gearing for where the car DOES make peak power

Don't forget to change the value in the computer for the correct gear ration so the speedo will be correct.

You can use an online calculator like the one below to see what rear gear and transmission gear will give RPM's near 5000 because iirc 5K is about peak torque

I have had 3.31's, 3.55's, 3.73's and 4.10's in my Mustangs.
3.73 is the perfect ratio IMO. 4.10's are a ton of fun but really wind out on the highway and if you go forced induction down the road become a real pain. 3.55 is a great highway gear but looses attitude on the street. 3.73? Perfect compromise. If you go FA still can use 1st gear. Highway is only ~150-200 RPM difference from 3.55. But it will shoot off the line SO much faster and accelerate a lot harder. There is a reason the performance pack comes with 3.73's...
I have an automatic in this car and 3.55's but am fully planning on switching to 3.73's next year.
