Stock PP Package Wheels Question- Widened by Weldcraft?

Manual. Traction is manageable but it would be nice to hook a little better.

How on earth is traction manageable with a Whipple? Are you leaving it in normal mode with the traction control on, so it pulls power?

Putting my Dark Horse in Track or Drag (no Whipple, just the stock engine) results in zero traction until I am rolling well on down the road, even if I get the tires hot first (and they are very sticky). I cannot imagine trying to get traction with a Whipple.

I had my wife in the car and she wanted to see how well it accelerated (deserted area of a multilane highway), and she noted it was sliding all over. I got a little eager on the throttle while still under 40 mph or so from a standing start, so my fault, but I really have to exercise restraint on the throttle to get it moving.

Thanks! Good to hear. Just don’t want my wife to wig out when she drives it… she doesn’t do well with the rear ends of cars coming out. lol. I ordered the manual hoping for better control.

Just leave it in Normal mode, which will leave the traction control on. If the tires exceed road speed, the ECU will pull power, just like in every other car. ESC will also kick in to keep the rear end from coming out of line too far.

Weldcraft has been widening wheels for a long time, very reputable. I also liked the wheels on my 13 GT track pac, and it had a Whipple, widened from 9 to 10.5 to run 305 tires on rear. Took it to the road course several times, no problems.

I put my base DH on the lift to measure clearances for you. Harder than I thought to get accurate measurement. There are obstructions that stick out. So it looks like ~9in backspacing would contact. If you add 2in to the inside of your 9in stock wheel, you would be at a 8.77in backspacing. And if you run more negative camber, that would decrease. 10.5 would be safer and still allow you to run a 305 or 315. OBTW HP DH 11in wheels have a 8.07in backspacing for reference. As you know, aftermarket 11in wheels also change offset to move wheel outboard. Widening, still cheaper than buying 4 new wheels, especially if you like the factory ones. Maybe someone has better measurements.

Again, there is an aftermarket option for 11" rears that looks stock - see post #32.

10.5" front is available, too.

Basically same appearance, width, and backspacing and offset as stock.

Since you are ok with cast wheels, the aftermarket one that looks the same are actually a significant upgrade in strength to the rim area - forged, flow formed (not fully forged).

You are of course correct.

Offset is the distance from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting surface of the wheel. Therefore, a higher number (52.5mm v. 24mm) offset has less of a "dish" meaning it is actually going to mount further inward. I had it backwards. Sorry for the confusion.

I would still like to see how an 11" wheel and tire combo looks on the front and some real feedback on rubbing. Ford really pushed the wheel and tire combo on the Dark Horse handling package (I have comments from others all the time disbelieving that my wheels and tires are factory and not aftermarket). I imagine that if they could have put another half inch in there, then they would have.

IMO the 10.5"s where too wide on the front. I had the HP set up on my M1 and never liked the tire poke. Thats why Ford put the fender flares on. I prefer the look of a flush fit.

Yes, traction is manageable. Yes, even with a Whipple. I turn traction control and advance trac off. I manage traction with my right foot. No question some performance is lost. I'm upgrading my wheels and tires in the next week. That will help a lot.

I like to be in full control of the car. I do not want or need driver assistance during performance driving.

BMR CB010 and CB762 will help with sliding all over… whipple with stock Pirellis and zero added items compared to a 19x11 with a 325, and BMR goodies is a night and day difference.
