The PS4S may not be a track tire, but put some rain on the track and they will out perform most track tires!

I agree with what was said about switching to the PS4S, they tamed the tramlining completely on my Dark Horse handling pkg. Even after installing wider than stock size tires.
The only thing I would worry about are temperatures below 45F.
The tread becomes very hard and Michelin says they may Crack when driven or stored in temperatures below 45F.

I just went with the stock 305/315-30/19's and really couldn't be happier.
If there comes a time when I have to replace these, I'll probably go with 325's in the rear.
So the tire is really wide already. For what reason would you put 325 in the rear?

Yes, changing out the Trofeo's for anything WILL change the character of the car; but from what I gathered, that is what is desired..

My Dark Horse with Handling Package on Michelin Pilot Sport 4s' is an

EXTREMELY.

Well. Behaved. Pony.
Thanks for that. I really do love the car, and to sell it for tires seems ridiculous.

Oh I will certainly see temps lower than that. Even in the garage where I store it all winter. Any suggestions?

I don’t know how you have over 6k miles on Trofeos and haven’t ended up on YouTube

I guarantee you that they have been heat cycled far beyond optimum and the stick will be worse than narrow, hard compound snow tires. Look, the Trofeos are really sticky For about 3k km But after that, you are tempting fate. This, in my opinion is why you are having trouble, not that the tire is a bad choice, just a bad choice for street use.

the Michelin PS4S are an outstanding tire, which, despite their use at Dark Horse Track Attack, I’m sure someone will be along to quip that “The PS4S are not track tires”. :surprised: Whatever. If there is a percentage of street use involved in your use case, consider the PS4S or similar class of tire and enjoy longer lasting grip, better road compliance, rain driving capability and less range anxiety line the EV folks, only for your tires.
Damn, this car should come with a warning label about the tires. I laughed when they told me it was at 50% at 5000 km. I'll get on replacing those tires now.

Thanks for your help,

If you otherwise like the car i would definitely try different tires. Also try turning off lane keeping or centering or whatever if its on. It might cause some pulling if your not used to it..
Turning that off is a good tip.

Thanks

Sorry to read about that. Glad the car itself is in good shape.

Tramlining. The car catches a groove or indentation and wants to follow it.

The condition is being caused by two factors: 1) the widths of the tires, 2) the stickiness of the tires. Some also feel the tread or tire design can be a factor.

My car originally came with Michelin Cup 2s. I was amazed the amount of debris I could pick up, simply rolling the tire across the driveway, once. The compound was like bubble gum. The Trofeos are roughly the same: excellent track tire. For the street, not so much. In both examples, tramlining can be an issue. For those using Cup 2s, the problem often went away once a more streetable compound was selected.

Switching tires would be a nice first step. Something less sticky, longer wearing.

The tires you referenced get lots of positive mentions. Others with DH/HPs can give guidance on their choices.
Thanks so much for your reply.

I'm on it

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tire...all=Blackwall&partnum=835YR9PSAS4XL&tab=Sizes

285/35/19 are about 3/8 of an inch less thread width than your stock rear tires, and about 2/5 of an inch taller. They are 1/5 of an inch wider than your stock front tires and about a quarter inch taller (note the measuring wheel width is narrower than either your front or rear wheel and narrower than the measuring wheel width used by Tire Rack for the Trofeo RS specs).

It is an ultra high performance all season tire with a 540 tread wear rating, no problem in cold weather, and even advertised as handling light snow.

I sued the Michelin All Seasons previously on an Audi. They gripped decently. They did not grip in the dry quite as well as PS4S when pushed hard, but they were better in the rain. Neither of those tires grips as well in the dry as the Trofeo RS.

LOL, they start out with only 6/32 of an inch of tread. That is 3/16" - not even a quarter inch. 50% gone at 5000 km is pretty decent, considering it is a 180 Treadwear tire.

There is no emergency to replace it.

I have over 4000 miles on mine, (about 6500 kilometers), including 2.5 hours of track time, and mine still grip once they are warmed up. They are slippery when cold, but they have always been like that, slipping all over before the sun comes up, when the asphalt and tires are cold, and I drive a little too hard from a standing start while turning the wheel . . . lol

@DRKKNITE if it's in the budget get a second set of rims and put high performance A/S for the cold months. I had Continental extreme contact DWS plus installed on the original rims, but there are many choices out there. Also I plan to bring the PS4S inside the house for the winter.

Contis ECS2 285/35/19 front and 295/35/19 rear. Conti now also does 305/35/19.
Replaced the Trofeos at 300 miles and keeping them as future track dedicated tires. Very happy with the Contis. Curretly 7k miles on them. No tramlining, great response, grip, noise. Just excellent street tires.
PS4S are also excellent but have limited 35 profile size options.
