Ford owns “Cobra”

I just hope they don't use that name. Besides the fact that it's already used by a car that is powered by the Coyote engine - AC Cobra GT - the OG Cobra is just something completely different than what a Mustang is and has been. No one needs that copy cat name except, well, the Cobra.

Ford has used the Cobra name for many Mustangs over the years. I think a S650 Cobra would be really cool. But to wear that name it damn well better be special and not just a Whippled Dark Horse.

Genuine question - are you joking, or are you being serious? I'm not trying to take the piss - I genuinely don't understand why, if this is an RTR collaboration, that they would put Pirelli P Zero Rs on. Wouldn't they use something else?

That said I have no idea what kind of tires would be used for drifting, but it seems illogical to me to use a prototype performance tire for that purpose...

On high horsepower drift cars, its typically very advantageous to use stickier compounds. Its the only way to achieve the entry speeds you see, full tilt, high cornering speed.

I think the Ford rep has an excellent sense of humor. Even if he knew something it would never be said out load, especially at a car show.

Exactly, and I've said for some time now with Ford getting more serious about mustang performance, certain trims are basically c8 rivals. Using the cobra name to rival the Corvette makes a lot of sense imo.

As for the car being special. But if these rumors of a 5.2 hybrid are true, and it's making like 900 HP AWD, I think it will have earned the cobra name. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if something with AWD, 900 hp, and the instant torque from the electric motors was capable of hanging with the zr1 in the quarter mile drag.

With all due respect, those reps are told not to say shit. Like their go to response on any future product or test mule is guaranteed to be "We don't comment on future products".

I guarantee that rep was confused and thinking about something else. My first guess is you said mustang prototype, and their brain thought of the RTR ecoboost prototype that was revealed earlier this year.

They know openly talking about future vehicles that openly is grounds for workplace drama, very likely even being fired. They aren't gonna risk that while just chatting casually at a car show lol.

Well we have footage of other people being at the show. We'll look at it and see if that particular prototype is on display. That itself is very rare.
