Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible: Specs, Features, and Everything You Need to Know
August 14, 2026
Ford Racing introduces the new Mustang® Dark Horse® SC convertible — the first new high-performance Mustang convertible since 2013 and the most powerful open-air Mustang ever. Orders open this fall, with cars arriving in dealer showrooms in spring 2027.
“If the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Racing. “It’s just pure fun, fast, freedom.”
What is the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible?
It’s the drop-top counterpart to the Dark Horse SC coupe, bringing Ford Racing engineering to the newest member of the Mustang Dark Horse family. Where the coupe is built for lap times, the convertible is built for open-air street driving — unlimited headroom, zero barriers, and the full, unfiltered sound of a supercharged V8.
How much power does it have?
A standard supercharged 5.2-liter V8 delivers 795 horsepower and 660 lb.-ft. of torque,1 paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for near-effortless, top-down speed. It’s the highest-performance Mustang convertible Ford has ever assembled.
How does it handle on the street?
Ford Racing engineers started with the Dark Horse SC’s rigid chassis and specially tuned its next-generation MagneRide® suspension for street driving rather than lap times.
“Both the Dark Horse SC coupe and convertible have been developed by our Ford Racing engineers,” said Arie Groeneveld, Mustang Dark Horse SC chief engineer. “But instead of prioritizing the convertible for setting lap times, we’ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine.”
The result is a setup tuned for a smooth, comfortable cruise that still stays planted when you lean into the accelerator.
A Mustang was never meant to belong to any one type of driver. Mustang drivers can all have the same fundamentally Mustang experience while their goals and types of vehicles may look nothing alike. The Dark Horse SC project made that clear to me.
Coupe and convertible. Race Bred and Street Cred vehicles that represent the Mustang and Ford Racing’s dynamic range of vehicles.
What’s the top-down driving experience like?
Dropping the roof takes the touch of a button. Without a barrier between driver and sky, the cabin opens up to endless headroom and the full soundtrack of a deep V8 rumble mixed with the whine of the supercharger — all managed by a fast-shifting, seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
What styling and color options are available?
The Dark Horse SC convertible brings a sleek, urban attitude to the Mustang lineup, including new color options:
