Planning on having a whipple kit installed this winter, most likely by Lebanon Ford in Cincinnati. Good chance in 6 or 7 years I'll want to sell mustang for something newer. What is everybody's opinion on resale? Get none of it back, some, most? Car will have relatively low miles and be in good condition. Thanks
Hard to put the horsepower from my DH to the summer tires now! Not sure how you handle the super charger without major traction improvements. These are not built as drag racers. They are very balanced. Enjoy it for what it is and save your money for the next great toy!

Private sell would be your best bet. Car will always depreciate. Even with it professionally being install, dealers look at mods as a turn off. One manager I know would always say, “this is only a car for one person out there” basically saying only one person will want this car the way it is and that should be you.

Lol. That's pretty extreme. Plenty of supercharged s550 and s650 driving around without all that for a lot cheaper
I'm just saying that's not uncommon to end up happening

In the old days guys were upgrading their superchargers as well. 2.3 to 2.9, VMP gen2 to gen3 etc

Drag radials are basically a requirement

I'd avoid a hopped up used car like the plague. It MAY have been well treated, but there is no way to know that, and I would not take the chance, regardless of price.
On the plus side, with the tune that comes with the supercharger the only tune available, at least you don't have to worry about it have some shitty tune from a hack tuner on it.

It de-values the car to the point I wouldn't even consider it. That tells me it's had the snot run out of it (whether it has or not), and I wouldn't want to have to deal with the repairs, wear and tear, and other things real or perceived, afterwards.
I’ll admit that I generally look for closer to stock vehicles, but this one drew my attention.
Particularly when you’re looking at the power band of the Coyote - GT or Dark Horse- you’re looking at caning the car hard to get good performance out of it.

So if you’re buying a new to you / used GT or Dark Horse, old muscle car, etc. you KNOW the car has been run hard at least a few times. Even a barn find with low miles.

This doesn’t negate your concern, but just to point out that any used Mustang V8 has this risk.

If you go into it without worrying about resale, and to just enjoy the car, have at it.
Agreed. Unless I personally knew and trusted the owner. Then it’s a plus. But that’s super rare

GT500s seem to be holding their value just fine. Even outside the factory warranty.

Very few dealers are going to want to take it in trade as they have to warranty it if resold by them, and a Chevy dealer is not going to want a modified Ford product, and a Ford dealer isn't going to want to warranty a car that may have been abused.

You'll do better on private sale, but assume you'll get zero back on the mods, you might find the right person to get some but not a lot back.

Anyone know how many miles/years the seals on the rotors are good for?

Go back and look at what an older Mustang is bringing with and without modifications, and remember the earlier superchargers could be had in the $6000 dollar range.

Same thing with aftermarket wheels, they bring the value of the car DOWN not up, especially if they go out of production. Try replacing an obsolete wheel it takes some doing.

A GT500 is a factory hot rod, not a regular car that someone has hot rodded. I agree on them holding value though. I can tell you from what I see at the dealership, they are babied. We'v ehad some buyers pick them up in an enclosed trailer and take them straight to their garages, with no PDI, still covered with plastic and stickers. A base GT with a Whipple will not get that treatment.

Commentators are way outta pocket on this

1. Most aren’t driven hard, with the exception of street race cars, YouTube racers etc..
A lot of big power cars n coffee cruisers

2. No. 1 doesn’t matter anyway…. The coyote is STOUT… same for the trans…

3. there is an entire network of people that love buying a “well built” car… now if your shit is hack, leaking with a bad tune and runs like ass and smokes…. Ok different story.

some folks do want a virgin car to build, look to the fox market, hell the s550 market
Almost no one leaves them stock.
