What does Gear Display Mode (GDM) toggle? Is it needed for CGD?

I tried searching, and it looks like Continuous Gear Display (CGD) is all you need to enable to see the gear indicator for A10s while in regular Drive. But does Gear Display Mode (GDM) do anything, and is it needed?

No it is not needed for continues gear display. What it does? No idea. May do nothing for the Mustang.

Sorry it wasn't clear. The question was essentially, if CGD shows the gear, what does GDM do when enabled. And GrabThatBlue gave the answer, probably nothing.
