So I bought a converter for the usb Port by the mirror to hopefully power my radar detector.

it does power but it seems like it doesn’t shut off with accessory power.

does anyone have a work around? Potentially looking to hardwire it via the mirror tap

any help is appreciated!

I think someone on here timed how long there was power to the mirror USB after shutting down Accy mode and determined it to be a few min., then shut off.

I don't know what the default accessory power off is on the Mustang, but on my '21 F150, it's 4500 seconds (1 hr 15 min). I used FORSCAN to change it to 30 seconds.

@Tuxonspeed - Get the wiretap that goes into the rain sensor that's under the cover on the windshield (in the post that @nitepony linked to a couple posts ago). It shuts down as soon as you shut the ignition off. I have a Uniden R8 and I found one for like $12. Works great with my Blendmount setup.

I had to use a usbc adapter. The added weight caused the plug to keep coming loose. Why did Ford select a usb?

the reason Ford used USB-A is because, even though it was originally made with data transfer in mind, it has become the de facto standard for plug and play power, a standardized 5V outlet of just +power, -power, +data, and -data. USB-C is more complicated because it involves devices communicating power capabilities allowing all the way up to 240W at 48V if the cable itself also identifies itself as EPR compatible, but only 100W at 20V if not, and defaulting to the usual 5V if there is not communication from either end
