Earlier today, I got a phone call from my dealership informing me I received a VIN for my Dark Horse Order. A bit awkward considering I just bought a used Dark Horse with under 2,400 miles for a couple grand less than my current order. On one hand, I would like to entertain offers for my current car. But on the other hand, I JUST got my dream car after waiting 18 months and the previous owner already did a decontamination wash, PPF, and ceramic coating on top completing it's first service. I have a $2,000 rebate on my allocation. Would love to get feedback from others on how to go about this situation. Car will be built 10/7 and will arrive by end of October/early November. The two cars are exactly the same spec.

A couple months after buying a new DH, it will also have 2,400 miles on it. And none of the upgrades you've already paid for.

What are your reasons for going through the cost and hassle of swapping?

The only reasons I can think of at the moment is a new clutch, fresh tires, and a free day at the Track Attack program.

I'm looking over the market right now and I think it would be tough to net more than $73K on my car. I could throw it up on BaT with a reserve and see what happens, but I would need to pay $100-430 on the listing.

The more i think about it, the more it seems unfeasible for a dealership to accept a straight swap AND give me some sort of rebate or check for $2-3K to help cover the PPF and ceramic coating. Especially with the price incerases on the car now since March 2023, they can just list it for $76K and find someone to buy it or auction it off. I could be wrong, but a part of me wants to drive up there when it arrives and see what the dealership thinks. I've been in close contact with them for 18 months and they really put in the effort in terms of hounding Ford for an allocation. I already have a $2K rebate on the order in result of them nagging Ford for months on in.

no way you are getting 73K for your car from a dealer- a used one just went a month ago with all options/ handling package exc. (only difference was it was Black) - the price was dropped to 68K with less then 1000 miles on it before it sold..... so figure dealer is going to want to make 8-10K on your car....they will probably offer you in the high 50s for it at the most.....dont feel bad...your car is worth more then high 50s- just remember they need to make a profit to keep the lights on.....

1) go for a drive in your new-to-you MDH to remind yourself why you got it in the first place
2) post up the allocation and build date to a fellow M7G member to take advantage of, to keep your stealership relationship intact and help out a brother/sister Mustang owner.

Remember all that time you were waiting? Right. See if someone here would step into your allocation.

2400 miles is nothing. You can drive it how you want since it’s broken in.

The only reasons I can think of to sell and get the new one is if you don’t like the colors and things of that nature.

other than that, you bought a basIicallynew dream car that’s all set up and ready to run.

Yeah, sounds like you caught a bit of FOMO and decided to source a vehicle via alternative means. Nothing wrong with that but once you choose a path you commit and that's that.

Let the allotment go; post about it here for anyone who may be interested in getting in on a 2024 and call it a day.

Sounds like you will lose thousands of dollars for a swap. I don't the see the value in that, especially with your car being cermaic coated etc. Have in mind what you do to your current car with the money you would invest like mods, trackdays, a 2nd set of tires for the track, etc.

Just enjoy your car and check if you can cancel the order without any penalties to pay.

A new clutch, fresh tires and a day at a track will still probably be less than the 'depreciated' offer the dealer will toss your way.

Keep the car you have and enjoy. When the new car arrives, go see the car you ordered at the dealer and take photos of yourself with the new car and your current car for sentimental reasons, then leave and never think of it again.

As they say, a fool and his money are soon parted. Don't be a fool OP. You already have the car you want. Instead of paying taxes on that new car purchase, use that money to get your clutch, tires and track day experience. Personally I am not seeing any rational/justifiable reason to go through the buying phase again.
