My S650 has the 401A package and came with 9x20 magnesium rims. It also came with a locking lug kits, and I really hate the one different lug on each wheel. I also decided to put black lugs on the magnesium rims because I think it makes the black center cap stand out and compliments the other black features on the car. Anyway .... I decided to get a set of these splined lugs. I double checked they are the right lugs for the car, according to the manufacturer, and they have the right thread pattern, installed fine, and I torqued them at 150 lbs, no problems installing.

BUT, they seam so much smaller than the factory lugs. they don't have a flange and the centering cone is not as deep. It's not like the wheels are going to fall off, but they just don't seem (look) as substantial as the factory lugs. But they do look good.

Am I over thinking this?

Awesome, thank you! Ya, I left the impact wrench in the drawer. I just have to tell the shop techs to do it the old fashioned way when I get it serviced!

the funny thing with the 401A is the car comes with stock lug nuts on every stud.

The dealership tech takes one lug nut off each wheel and puts the locking ones on.

Some techs have boxes full of stock lug nuts from all the cars they have prepped over the years.

My front plate bracket and locking lug nuts are still in the factory plastic in the trunk, I didn't want them on the car. Put it on the P&S agreement not to install them

I stopped using wheel locks after shredding the keys on two sets, one OEM and the other Gorilla. Always used recommend torque to tighten and a 2ft breaker bar to remove 🤷‍♀️. I found out the other day the car alarm will go off if you try to jack it while locked so good enough for me. If I'm getting some I'd probably go with Advanced Locks. Gorillas/OEMS are easy to remove with a 12 point socket and a hammer.

My locking lugs were still in a bag in the trunk too. The dealership didn't bother to put them on. I put them on a few days after I got the car and thought they looked pretty dumb. At least with the splined lugs you need a little more than a socket to get them off.

the OEM are a bulge cone seat so they are a little wider, I just bought a set of the bulge black lugs from cj pont parts i think, but then my new AR wheels needed the spline style the holes were so small

The stock lug nuts are a steel core with a stainless steel cover. Eventually, those covers can swell or tear, making it difficult to remove. Sometimes the socket won’t fit, or it strips. Replace stock ones with solid ones. I did for my DH stock rims.
As for splines, they come in a wider, more stock flange & a skinnier flange (if my memory is correct). Aftermarket wheels often need the skinnier ones. When I was looking, many of the websites said that certain splines were not for stock wheels. Be careful. Also, my stock DH wheels have different depths for lug nut recesses from front to rear. Front wheels deeper & lug nuts looked great. Rears shallower & lug nuts looked stupid sticking way out past the rims. Got shorter Gorilla splines for the rear.
I like the security of the McGards, but they are an eyesore
