Hey good question about replacing the factory speakers. I just finished changing out the door lower 6 inch speakers, the door upper 3 inch speakers and the centre 3 inch. Here are my lessons learned. After completing the install I found that I now had too much high frequencies, so I disconnected the built in tweeter in the Pioneers that I installed in the doors (snipped the lead for the tweeter on the positive terminal) . Be careful when you replace the door and centre channel 3 inch speakers as the factory ones are rated at 6.8 ohms and the majority of after market 3 inch speakers are rated at 3.4 ohms. This means that you will be pushing twice the power to these after market speakers from your factory head unit. Not an issue for low volume or very short periods of high volume, but very dangerous to your head unit if you play loud music for an extended period of time. I installed a 2 ohm audio resistor in line with the 3 inch door speakers so it is now safe for loud volumes. I didn't bother for the centre channel and haven't had any issue. The upgrade of the lower 6 inch speaker with a set of Morel (expensive but worth it) provided the greatest sound difference as it sorted out the bass deficiencies that the factory system has. I also built and installed a sub woofer in the trunk which runs 40 amps of power from the battery. Although nice to have, I find that to get the best sound I have to drop one of the rear seats. Knowing what I know now, I may not have installed the sub woofer as the Morels do sound good. I also installed Dynamatting in all critical areas to ensure that there is no unwanted buzzing. Of course this doesn't compare to the upgrades that are discussed in this thread where folks have changed out the head unit and installed an after market power amp, but I really didn't want to go to that level. All in pricing in Canadian dollars was about $800 for the interior upgrade and about $1200 for the sub woofer.
