I had a great time once again yesterday, 7/27/24, taking my GT out for open track day at The FIRM. This was only my second time out on a track, so I still have a lot to learn, but I’m having a great time.

I did switch to my Velgen VF5 wheels (19x11/19x10) and had Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 295/35r19 and 275/35r19 installed. My first trip out I was running with the stock PP wheels and Pirellis, which actually did pretty well. I also swapped the stock brake pads over to G-Loc R10/R8 and flushed the brake fluid with SRF. Last, I had Steeda setup the car up with a track alignment.

I’ll tell you that it was like driving a different car this time. It took me a couple of sessions to get a feel for the brakes as they had significantly more grip. I was also able to push the car harder on the turns with the new tires and alignment. The car can certainly run faster, but I’m trying to not push it too hard while I’m still learning the basics on the track.

The car is an absolute blast to drive on the track, and it does great. As it did last time out, the axle did get into the high temp warning range. I swapped the oil over to 75w/140 and wrapped the exhaust around the axle in hopes that would keep it from overheating prior to this trip. It certainly did help and allowed me to stay out longer during each session, but it is still getting hot. I’ll be installing the differential cooler prior to the next track day.

Here’s a video of my best lap of the day. It was a 1:23.62, which I’m pretty happy about considering it’s my second time on a track. On my first trip to The FIRM my best lap was 1:26.89. On my last session this time every one of my laps other than warm up and cool down were better than my best lap from my first trip.

Didn't think to take any since I was swapping brake pads and wrapping the exhaust late Friday to get it ready for the track on Saturday. I'll post some pics when I get the diff cooler installed, but it will be a couple of weeks before I get to that.
