With it seeming likely that S650 will launch as a '24MY, I wondering if Ford will want to launch it as a 60th Anniversary celebration.

Of course, the first Mustangs were built in April of '64, but were all '65 VINs. The "64 1/2" were only given this identifier as there were significant updates half way through the model year. A '24 model year would make it only 59 years..........but my old '99 SN95 was a 35th Anniversary Edition so Ford have messed with the date before.

So, it wouldn't surprise me if Ford blurred the lines of model year and calendar year to celebrate 60 years in 2023 as a "'24 1/2 MY"

Just my rambling thoughts as we await more spy photos :)

That's an interesting thought. If they do, hopefully they don't release it alongside a 60th anniversary appearance package 🙃. That pretty much made the 50th editions pointless

what killed the 50th anniversary edition not only was the cheaper package damn near the same thing. They Also wasted an opportunity to put a few more hp behind it, aka it was a wet goose when they should of pulled a bullitt or mach 1 trick

just my opinion

60th anniversary should be the 2025. 50th was the 2015. The first cars were all titled as 65's, even though everyone calls them 64 1/2's.

Shared with the 1997 Escort ZX2, they were all 1997.5 and titled as 1998's.

Weird I know that.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I said at the start...........but, Ford celebrate the anniversaries when it suits them.

This was the 40th........in 2004

And the 35th was 1999, but it seems Ford turned that page with the 2015 to reflect the true model year.

There are two quick identifiers to see it the Mustang is a '64 1/2 or '65.
Pop the hood,
1) the coil on the '64 1/2 is laying down on the manifold. The coil on the '65 stands up.
Some people cheat their '65s and lay their Coils in the down position trying to say their car is an early '64 1/2.
2) the one you can't cheat on and call you Mustang a '64 1/2 if it's really a '65
On the Radiator Core Support, passenger side in front of the battery, the '64 1/2 will have louvers
(like the ones street rodders would punch in their hoods to look cool)
The '65s all have perfectly long skinny 'oval' holes in front of the battery. This was a factory decision on the assembly line for the '65s.

Once you see both examples, you'll never forget.
