It's easier on the synchros. Skipping gears, like a 4->2 or a 6->3, has a bigger RPM differential than a standard gearchange. If you re-engage the clutch while in neutral and you blip, all the bits and bobs get up to speed, rather than the synchros on the 2nd gear accelerating everything.Why would you double declutch on a synchro 'box?
But mainly, it feels good to do and it's a skill not everyone has. This is exactly the "driving engagement" argument people make for a manual transmission instead of the A10, even though cars equipped with the A10 are quantitatively faster cars.
