Have an '18 and a '24 GT. Has anyone had their RSWs go Bat Shat Crazy, (swiping back and forth at an excessive rate for a short time), while driving in light to moderate rainfall, not a deluge, just a normal shower. Both of my GTs do this at times and I'm just wondering if others have experienced or know what causes it? Thank You.

My '24 wipers do some weird stuff when it sort of raining and the windshield is dirty. Otherwise, they're fine.

The simple answer - keep your windshield, especially in front of the rain sensor, VERY clean, and, keep your wipers clean and fresh (wipe them with alcohol or other oil free cleaner) The IR and sensor detects water / moisture in front of the sensor which triggers the wipers. Moisture left on the windshiel in front of the sensor, refracts the IR, that is reflected back to sensor, triggering the wipers.

I turned rain sensing off. Same problem, a few drops of rain and they go to full speed. A great way to boost Fords wiper sales.
Someone here sid it was due to the speed sensing part of the system.

I turned mine off because it operates erratically. Automatic Hi-Beams yes, RSW’s no, Adaptive Cruise control yes, Lane Assistance no, Hill Hold yes, Rev Matching no.

The sensor is, unusually, very sensitive to rain regardless if your windshield is dirty or not. Ford uses a refraction sensor to determine how much rain hits that area.

Even if it’s a light amount of rain, it’ll speed up if more droplets hits the sensor. It’s also the case in reverse; if it’s pouring outside but only 1 droplet hits the sensor, it’ll assume it’s raining lightly.

I’ve gotten very mixed results, but as long as your wipers aren’t garbage it’ll do a good job at keeping the windshield as clear as it can.

What's Rev Matching? Please. Thanks.

On a 6 speed the engine module revs the engine RPM automatically to match downshifts. In theory it’s a great idea to reduce clutch wear while enhancing driving smoothness. The problem is that sometimes I paused between shifts to make some kind of decision about what I want to do, then the rev is wasted. Maybe I’d rather double clutch. Maybe I’d rather break. So I turned red matching off.

Thanks for getting back so quick. When I retired from driving a mixer, I vowed to never manually shift again! :frown: Take care ....
