What’s going on everyone! I have a few questions about which route to go on my Mustang and what supporting mods would be needed. I have a base 24 GT and heading to 3 years of ownership with it. My car is mostly stock besides suspension upgrades I made for the car to handle better on the streets, back roads, but I’m now thinking about adding headers and going with a 93 tune, or going with the stage 1 procharger setup.

My questions are is it worth doing just headers and 93 tune? I already have an AWE touring catback. What would the expected HP/TQ gains be?

Would it be better to go the Procharger stage 1, and add whatever options I’d want/like? I’d most likely speak to someone before I end up making the purchase. As for the Procharger set up I’d also most likely go with a 93 tune. I know E85 makes the most gains but I’m not interested in being the fastest, or getting every single HP out of my car since it’s mainly a street driven car on weekends or nice weather. I am leaning more towards Procharger but would like to know what other supporting mods I’d need, and what to expect if supercharging? I’ve had a few mustangs but never once modified anything on the Coyote platform and most I’ve ever done was tune and headers on one of my older cars and that was a blast. I just really love the look and sounds the Procharger makes, and would like to make it a bit quicker.

Also I did try to find some of these answers online and on the forums but never quite found an exact answer.

If you’re dead set on keeping it on 93 than just leave it alone or put headers on it.

not much gain tuning it for 93 and you definitely don’t want to run boost on 93, E85 isn’t about “making the most gains” it’s about cooler burn and being able to tolerate spark without knock

Skip the headers and go straight for the ProCharger Stage 1 Intercooled P-1X Complete Kit. A 93-octane tune with headers yields only 20–40 extra HP, whereas a complete Stage 1 ProCharger adds a massive 325+ HP on pump gas while delivering the exact whistle and look you want.

Hmmm that makes sense never really knew what the benefit of E85 was just knew you would make more power. Would I have to test to make sure the E85 around me is actually what I’m getting? I’ve read that sometimes it’s not even E85.

I don’t know where you live, I’m in Michigan and we have a whole facebook group that tests and post various stations quality pretty regularly.

Just an idea to look into

I’m in Texas. I did check to see if there are nearby gas stations with E85 and had like 5 near me. I’ll definitely look into it. Are there any cons to E85 besides mileage? Would I need to upgrade anything with the fuel system?

Talk to your tuner first, I’m not sure on what requirements you’ll need with a PC.

one of the reasons I went whipple was adaptability in their tune and being able to run E30

Ok. I am boosted on a now stage two Whipple kit. Some information for you base on what I have done to my vehicle.

1. A tune and header setup on 93 would not be a bad thing; it will not make big power, but it will sound amazing. The tune from Ford is already aggressive on the Gen 4 5.0, I would say you would probably get to 460ish _ RWHP+ depending on the tuner.

2. Boosted. If you go with a boosted setup, a few things people do not talk about, but are needed IMO for the safety and longevity of the vehicle.

A. YOU WILL NEED HEADERS and an H.O. CAT setup, or CAT delete. Some say you do not need this, but I would disagree. You will eventually melt your CATS, even at lower power levels. The S650 has welded CAT on its manifold (passenger side?), so it's hard just to cut the CATS out. Many just go LT and eliminate the CATS, or spend the money for a good H.O. CAT system.

B. OPG/CSS. Again, some say nay; you do not need to do it if you have an automatic. I have a manual, so I did it. At boosted power levels, it is the harmonics and vibrations. The gear could last with no problems, or it could not. Roll the dice?

There may be some other things, but that will depend on what you are doing. Half-shafts, Drive shaft, ect, but again, that depends on power levels and what you are doing. Highway rolling? You're fine. 1000" HP drag racing from a dig on a prep track? Umm...not so much.

Just keep this in mind when you consider what the endgame will be. As they say, you have to pay to play. Yes, you can also decide, well, I'm not going to be going hardcore when I boost, so I do not need to do anything else. Once again, that's a decision for you. As for myself, I decided that doing the work to have a safer setup was better than rolling the dice and hoping nothing goes wrong.

I know E85 makes the most gains but I’m not interested in being the fastest, or getting every single HP out of my car since it’s mainly a street driven car on weekends or nice weather.
Always confusing when people say this but also consider a supercharger. You're okay with 93 vs e85 because you don't need the power, but you also might want 700hp?

Depending on if you get cats and what brand you go with, you can spend $1,000-$3,000 on headers, plus install, possibly some custom work if the ones you buy don't have a bolt-in X/H pipe. And then it might be too loud, or you might have issues with emissions....

If you have a car where you already like how it sounds, and easy access to E85, your best bet is to get an E85 tune. You can revert back to a 93 tune in just a few minutes and your car will be 'stock'. And it will save you thousands of dollars.

I’d also most likely go with a 93 tune.
After you buy a tuning device and pay for a tune, adding an E85 tune is usually just another small charge on top of that (say $100 or so depending on tuner)

You're going to spend about $500 for an HP Tuners RTD and credits (or other device, again depending on your tuner) and then another 200-400 for the tune itself. So roughly $1,000 total.
