Out of curiosity, what do you think happened to the side trim here?

My local dealer has a GT on their lot where the front part of the trim behind the driver side front wheel that runs under the door was loose previously, and it looks like in the past three weeks ago it's been somehow torn off even more.

Before there was just one fastener on the bottom that wouldn't push back in, now there are at least two.

Do they have to entirely remove it and redo speed clips or something?

Most people in the US drive trucks and SUVs. Customers probably think it's a running board.

Forty percent of us are horizontally challenged. Occupants could be dragging their legs across it.

There's a nice scratch across the face. If the guy running the vacuum would quit crashing into it...

Dealers probably have some great stories, but I don't have a clue why the piece is failing.

For anyone considering, I'd ask for a both replacement rocker trim and fasteners.

Edit,

I feel it's in everyones' best interest to get the car or truck out of dealer hands as quickly as possible. Do not clean. Do not detail. Perform an inspection. Test drive. Document any concerns. Complete signing and leave. The longer its in the hands of a disinterested party, the increase in risk of damage.

To repair it correctly the body panel above needs to be removed as well so they can be attached correctly then reinstalled together as one piece.
There are quite a few plastic fasteners that hold the two pieces together.
I had my side splitter painted gloss black and installed it myself. That’s how I know.

Someone tried to raise it on a lift using that part, I've seen it at our dealership several times...
You do have to remove a good bit of stuff to secure it properly.
