Is there anyone or anywhere to go to find out exactly minimum settings to allow OTA updates and zero other connected features?
I asked GROK, and this is what spewed out.
Please if you have achieved getting OTA updates and zero other car communication things please post your experiences.

- Vehicle Connectivity (Modem Activation):
- This is the core requirement. It enables the embedded Telematics Control Unit (TCU/modem) for cellular data communication with Ford's servers, allowing the vehicle to check for, download, and install OTA updates (via cellular or Wi-Fi).
- How to enable:
- On your SYNC 4 touchscreen: Tap Settings > Connectivity > Connected Vehicle Features > Toggle "Vehicle Connectivity" to On.
- Once enabled, activate the modem if not already done (this is a one-time step):
- Download and log into the FordPass app on your smartphone (free, but optional for basic OTA—it's mainly for notifications and remote scheduling).
- Start your vehicle (running, parked in a safe, ventilated area).
- In the app, select "Connect to Vehicle" > "I've Started My Vehicle."
- Accept the prompt on the vehicle's screen (may take up to 2 minutes).
- The app will confirm connection.
- Note: This uses Ford's complimentary connected service (no personal cellular plan needed). Disabling this will disconnect the modem entirely, preventing all OTA updates.
- Automatic Software Updates:
- This setting allows the vehicle to automatically check for and install updates without manual intervention.
- How to enable:
- On the SYNC 4 touchscreen: Tap Settings > Software Updates > Toggle "Automatic Updates" to On.
- Recommended: Set a recurring schedule (e.g., overnight) via the touchscreen or FordPass app to avoid interruptions during driving.
- Without this, you'll only get manual prompts or no updates at all.
- Wi-Fi Connectivity (Conditional Requirement):
- Not always needed, but required for larger updates (e.g., full map downloads or certain SYNC features). Most smaller OTA updates can use the cellular modem alone.
- How to enable (when needed):
- On the SYNC 4 touchscreen: Tap Settings > Connectivity > Wi-Fi > Connect to a known network (home Wi-Fi recommended; public Wi-Fi is not supported for updates).
- If an update requires Wi-Fi, the system or FordPass app will notify you—otherwise, keep it off to minimize data usage.
