I added a removable oil filter access panel to my GT. I plan to add a Steeda K-member to the cradle and I will not be going through an R&R to change the oil.

I used a paint marker to trace the opening (while panel installed) by reaching through from the wheel well. I used a Dremel with 1/8 diamond bit to cut the panel. The cut is not the prettiest but I did not have anywhere to hold the panel other than my lap. If I had the room I would have clamped the panel to a table.

I use an old license plate to make the tabs. I got the theaded clips from menards. I used an old piece of rubber as an oil guide so it does not piss all over the under tray as the filter drains. I was going to add U-channel to the edge of the opening to make it look a little nicer but it made fitting the panel a pain. I may go back to make prettier in the spring when I can get back on the lift. It may not look the best but it is very solidly mounted

Looks like it will serve the purpose. Taking the whole panel off would not be as quick with your new access.👍🏻

With a cordless ratchet, it takes me less than a minute to get the full panel off.

Useful mod, though.

@roadpilot I use the cordless as well. Maybe if I raced or tracked and had to change oil more often this might be someting to consider.

I did this in preparation for the K-member installation which would make oil changes more than a simple inconvenience. I also plan to track the car.

The main thing I got from your OP is you used a high speed diamond bit to cut stiff material in your lap. At least it wasn't a chain, or a Skil saw. 😆 You may wish to consider buying a work bench and vice for future projects. 😉

PS: Very nicely done mod BTW! 👍

I have all those things but it was 20F outside and I did not feel like getting the car on and off the ramps to make room in my tiny shitty garage. I had a hell of a time getting the car on the ramps. They kept scooting forward. I was about 1 failed attempt away from drilling the concrete and bolting them down.

I got the idea to use diamond bit from the grill intake mod video. It is much more robust and controllable than the drill style bits and not as aggressive as the grinding stone bits. The grinding stone bits are also fragile and will shatter.
I could have gotten better straight lines with a cut-off wheel but the sharp corners would end up looking like crap. Nobody will see it but me so I don't care if the lines are not perfect.

Thank you OP for posting this. Nicely done. I was looking for an access port for the oil filter.
I wait for weather to get better before starting this project.

Update: I did oil changed and tried out the access panel and piss-flap. The piss-flap did a great job of directing the oil out and away from undertray.

From looking at this photo. Why could you not just cut slots in the felt floor pan to allow the floor pan could be dropped without having to remove the brace to drop the felt pan.

I'm new to the under belly panel, but from where are you reaching the oil filter with your hands. Watching your video, it looks like the cut you made is to get the oil out, but your hands are inside a different hole which I can't see. You removed the oil filter from somewhere else it looks like.

1. I didn't want to take the panel off regardless of the K member brace.
2. cutting it up that much would weaken it more than I wanted.
