To me, that little compressor and tire sealant system isn't exactly confidence inspiring if/when needed. I know it's lighter in weight but most cars won't be raced, and I doubt gas mileage would be affected by a real spare.

Anyone here had to use the system and was the outcome successful or worse, unsuccessful?

Anyone ditched the system and put a "real" spare back there? Those aren't exactly great either. Guess we just need to drive around nails...... 🙄

I green tire slime mine. They're staggered, so I'd have to get two spares. I believe Ford now has a spare kit that fits cars with Brembos. There's a few companies that have them to fit your cars configuration. People with base 18s just purchase an extra wheel and use it for five tire rotations. Tires last longer. But I doubt the spare well fits larger than 18s. Tire slime will save you a headache, but it's not full proof.

I have the base 4-piston BREMBO's and my car came with the optional spare, it weighs 33lbs and the jack another 6 so it's not a lot of weight.

I did replace the tire with a taller 135/80-18, which is 26.5" tall and it is a tighter fit over the original which was 25.5" tall in the spare tire well.

Good thing I had a real spare cause I ran over a piece of metal a couple months ago that ripped the left rear inner sidewall open so a can of Fix-A-Flat would've never worked.

The last time I needed a spare tire was 1969 (1969 Dodge Charger, came with 2-ply tires).

I've had two flats in last 4 years and both sliced the sidewalls on 30 series tires. Compressor and slim can not fix.
Also, I heard slim effects TPMS, not sure if that's true.

A car not coming with a spare tire is like going to a Mexican restaurant that doesn't have complimentary chips and salsa, and even bean dip. Ford has gone El Cheapo.

I think there is a common misconception here. “I have never needed a spare tire” is very different from “I have a spare in the event that I do need it”.

I’ve got a 2000+ km road trip coming up in July. If I blow a tire I have the spare. One less thing to think about or worry about.

One of the few times in life where “not if but when” is more accurately “not when but if”.

Isn't the Cub Scout or Boy Scouts motto "Be prepared"?
