If they manage to win in the first race of the season I'm gonna be so happy. They also looked really strong at le man so a win might not be off the table there either.

With just over 20 hours to go, they're running 1-2. Exciting, but there's still a lot of race to come. There's about a 10 second gap to 3rd, which is pretty substantial for only being 4 hours in.

I don't want to act cocky, but it's looking good. Definitely stronger right now than they were last season.

for those not watching the race, Ford Performance Global Director Mark Rushbrook just teased a lot of things for the mustang community, first off, they are now actively producing the GTD so those will be showing up soon. secondly they talked about how the F1 partnership its already showing promising results but most importantly:

"the dark horse served as the homologation base for the GT3, which in turn formed the base of the GTD, and well see it in the mustangs we have coming in the future"

last year, I hypothesized that the real reason for an expensive GTD was to actively fund development of the next Mustang platform. A lot to be learned from GTD development.

sure beats just pouring money into a years-long pit and then hoping to recoup on a sales scale.

I do believe we will see some great things ahead for the Mustang we’ve known and loved.

There was also a program Ford's CEO hinted at regarding reducing the weight of the mustang without making the price explode. I have to believe that's something that'll influence the next gen as well.

With an hour to go, they're in 4th/5th about a second behind the leader, and the caution just came out. Gonna be a nail bitter to the end, looks like any of the top 5 cars could take the win here.

40 mins to go, still under caution. I'm not certain, but it looks like the mustang jumped a few positions due to a fast pit stop. So instead of 4th/5th, they could be running 2nd once the green flag flies.

Edit: The mustang is back in the lead, Corvette in second, but it looked like all the cars behind the mustang were bunched up and fighting, extending the lead. The mustang had half a second on the Corvette a few laps ago, that's up to about 2.3 seconds a few laps later.
