If they are banking on leveraging the ‘Mustang’ nameplate that infers others already know what a mustang is. Can’t use it as leverage if it doesn't represent anything. Why is bronco more sacrosanct.
absolutely. Then it just becomes a dilution of the nameplate and brand.

I would argue that it hurts the real mustang while adding shine to the other, non-mustangs they want to call “mustang,” but the Mach e experiment proves it may actually hurt the new vehicles.

Ford really needs to get back to common sense and fundamental thinking. The Mustang name belongs to a specific 2 door sports coupe. It isn’t a commodity thst can be ground into pixie dust and sprinkled over other vehicles to help them “fly” into peoples garages.

Question: Has there ever been a 4 door pony car from anyone? There are hot sedans to be sure, but by definition, 4 doors is not a 'pony' car.
Nope. Which is funny to me because like you said “Pony car” by definition is based off of the Mustang bodystyle and other things.

So whenever Ford and marketing say something is a Mustang because they “injected” some of it in there. What is that exactly? Lol. Putting a V8 and manual in there could be a bunch of things and with the Mach E it just has some design cues and badges but severely lacks the body style.

I was thinking the V6 Chargers but I don't think they count (I'm guessing due to size?).

They’re technically performance sedans, new one would fit in the executive sedan/Muscle car class for the coupe.

The Challenger would be the Dodge answer to the “Pony” car class but it became a pseudo Muscle car too because of size. Technically it would only be the Mustang and Camaro. (Sports/GT car)

Even though muscle car is a blanket term for American performance coupes, I’m talking about the old definition which is just a American executive coupe or a Grand Tourer.

The charger was never considered a pony car. It was a muscle car along the lines of a cehevellee. The challenger likewise. But the modern challenger has sort of been mixed with the pony car was due to the mustang and Camaro getting fat. But the. The Camaro skimmed down again and it was more mustang and Camaro. Yet the challenger remained two door. While the charger became a 4 door, it was never considered a pony car. So no 4 door pony car ever existed.
Hence, a 4 door anything - SUV or car - is not a pony car and thus not a mustang.

Any concrete confirmation on how big a vehicle this Mach-4 is going to be? I vaguely recall someone posting a while back talking about someone describing it looking like a Panamera, but wasn't sure if that was describing aesthetics or size.

(I apologize for posting frequently, I'm just trying to find something to look forward to this year or next.)

The person I originally heard that from deleted his messages on Reddit and was supposedly at the meeting. But it’s not hard to believe it’ll be biggish.

Isn’t Ford technically Thunderbirding the Mustang at this point? Lol

SOLD: 2011 Mustang GT, 2016 Mustang V6, DH ordered
For those that may not know, but Ford knows.... in 1986 I had the best Mustang with Bosch Anti-Lock brakes and great V8 and the best seats and interior and it was called "Lincoln Mark 7".

Why not make a four door Lincoln based on the S650? That would help increase the sales of the S650 design. I say to Ford ...just do it and call it Lincoln Mark X. BTW- for 1986 they sold something like 20K cars in that year. And the price at that time counting inflation would be close to 2024 base DH Mustang today.

That actually makes a lot of sense too.

They should absolutely bring back the Lincoln mark series. It was basically a Lincoln Mustang. Like Ford’s BMW M class.

I’d be down for that.

the Mark series was the hot rod Lincoln.

How would you make it so it doesn't cannibalize or take away Mustang sales? (I'd prefer the Cougar Eliminator personally...)

They wouldn’t be compareable cars. Even back in the day, the Mark was like a luxury mustang or a luxury v8 version of the Thunderbird (though based on a shortened Continental). But it wasn’t conoareablr in performance or “drivers feel.”

however, these days, it would need to be a performance powerhouse - which means ford would need to ensure the mustang improves a lot to stay ahead.

basically most who are looking for a 4 door (which is what the ne mark would likely be -even though the older cars were two door.) wouldn’t be buying a mustang as it is. The Lincoln would be for those who like the cts5-v. And would need to win a shootout between them.

the mustang is a different animal. There would be very little cross shopping.

The ford version of the mark -also on a stretched next gen mustang platform - would be for the charger crowd.

there will be slight cross shopping on this one. But ultimately it’s also the same people cross shopping s mustsng and charger or mustang snd sporty SUVs. The benefit for Ford is if they end up losing a customer’s cross shopping comparison between the mustang and another vehicle - it’s a Ford vehicle snd the sale stays with Ford.

there will be sedans can be the “sporty enough” car while the Mustang is more specific for hardcore performance in addition to cryisung fun.

Speaking of 4 doors, apparently TKs garage made a video with his “sources” saying a Chevy SS might be coming back. Obviously take it with a boulder size of salt because he’s usually wrong about anything other than mopar stuff. Also recently Camaro development was halted.

But I wanted to talk about it because it poses a interesting situation, if they did build a SS I would see that as more successful then a Mustang 4 door, and the naming convention (although dumb) would allow more acceptance. Especially if they decided not to name it a Camaro. Basically would be a sucker punch beyond the grave 🤣
