Why are there so many Dark Horses on the lots with huge discounts? Did Ford miss the target? When they were Shelbys it was few and far between. Looks like 804 new cars with 2024s and 2025s still on the lots as well. Crazy times.

Lots are overflowing anywhere I look, almost every make/model.

COVID wasn't that long ago. During that era and shortly after, a lot of people bought new vehicles. Few see the need to trade-in or trade-up today. Interest rates aren't helping. Uncertainty over the economy. High prices of fuel, daily purchases and services. The amount and severity of Ford's recalls.

[Edit: For those that can afford one] it is a great time to buy a Mustang or any other vehicle. Discounts are expected as a precursor to negotiation.

Used vehicles are a bit different. Because of the headwinds above, many have been pivoting to the used arena. Prices, while still cheaper than new, are generally holding and in some instances drifting higher.

I believe it all boils down to price, The Dark Horse and the GT's are overpriced, period. Yes, they have all the bells and whistles but most of this isn't needed for a car that most people drive as a fun car. I just read that Mustangs are in the group of cars that are yearly low mile cars. This makes the cost per mile crazy. With "NO" competition, FORD should be selling lots of Mustangs. There's a reason. No special editions, color choices are bad, and as much as the I-Pad Jockey's love the dash, it's a failure. Too many recalls haven't helped. Dealers are gouging people on trades. I've had seven varieties of Mustangs since 2002. This may be my last one.

Surprising so many cars left in inventory especially after the sales event Ford had earlier this past May thru July 6th
I ordered my car in January & took delivery in May with over $7k off the MSRP

The "American Value. For American Values" sales event lets the public pay the same price Ford employees pay. This program features transparent, no-haggle pricing. It runs at participating dealerships nationwide from May 1, 2026, through July 6, 2026.

It's as simple as .... Less than 18% of ALL new car sales are sedans! The market has shifted to SUV's, cross overs and pick ups. Mustangs fit into a category representing less than 7% of annual vehicle sales. Little wonder Ford is out of the "car" business. It's really not complicated ...... Buyers preferences have changed over the past decade. A Mustang is just not "practical" transportation.

I agree with the prices. We're all here so we all obviously bought, but the prices are too much for the target buyers of these cars. I got $7,500 off MSRP and wouldn't have paid a dollar more. I'm starting to second guess the purchase as my car still sits at the dealer with no date for a back ordered motor mount to replace under warranty. They already replaced the transmission output flange.

Thank God I stuck to my guns and didn't pay the absurd prices for the DHSC. I'd be really pissed right now.

You're basically paying $5K more than a GT Premium with PP, MR and AVE to get the Tremec, extra cooling, stiffer suspension and hardened engine parts, which, other than the Tremec, mainly only helps if you track the car. And that's if you want the manual. Most of the DHs I've seen in inventory are automatics. Plus you get cloth seats instead of ActiveX or leather seats in the GT premium. And don't forget the $1300 gas guzzler tax that's not mentioned in the build-price tool. Oh, and higher registration and insurance rates too.

I don't believe it's the price ..... Mustang owners are just "absurdly" loyal ...they moan and groan about the price of of a GT or DH, cite all of the reasons that they are over priced or not worth it, BUT, buy them anyway. For the past 5 years Ford has sold between 45 and 53k units (and will probably sell the same number this year). Ford is just NOT selling Mustangs to buyers that prefer or need more practical vehicles for THEIR lifestyles. You can get a Mustang (EB) for 10 grand less than a GT ... still a Mustang - same mass produced assembly line facility, same paint, interior, body panels, door hinges etc, BUT ... Mustang owners are just absurdly loyal and as Ford KNOWS - willing to PAY. LOL

I think the DH was excluded.

The price paid isn't a running cost, it's the depreciation on that price that counts.
We're in different countries, the Mustang is an absolute performance bargain here. Hopefully too, depreciation won't be an issue, because I have no intention of selling mine.
