Hey All,

About to have a FP Whipple Stage 1 installed on my DH so am looking for a street tire setup.

CURRENT:
  • Steeda MagneRide Sport Progressive Springs
  • 20" Velgen VF10 Wheels
  • Nitto 555 G2 Tires (285/35R20 Front and 315/35R20 Rear)

The supercharger going on next month and am looking at options for a more grippy rear tire setup. I remember the G2 being pretty crappy for boosted applications back on my 2021 GT Premium (w/ Roush Phase 2). Not looking to take the car to the track; this is a street application only.

Do folks recommend swapping the rear to a 315/35R20 Nitto 555 RII or grabbing a smaller wheel and a Mickey Thompson ET Street SS?

I would say that I don't want tire with a taller diameter as I want to avoid rub issues. She is already about as close as I would want to get and I'm already stressed about the front being too low once the SC goes on.

Here are the current rear wheel+tire dimensions (Sorry, had to have it listed twice as this is a Tire COMPARISON Webapp lol)

Here is how low the current setup sits with the 20" and a 35 sidewall.

I bought a second set of rims that were all the same size and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s for daily driving around town on and haven't had any issues with them so far. With the handling package you cant go any smaller than a 19" rim. I can't remember the exact size but I can look when I get home.

I'd go to a 27.7" tire myself

But if it's not rubbing now you would be fine with the same size RII

Appreciate it, thx. I know @GhastlyTT has a Dark Horse and I think he's got a drag pack on there just not sure if his his a HP or not. @GhastlyTT ??

That's the 30 sidewall yeah? 325/30R20? That is starting to get into rubber band territory ;)

Michelin pilot sport 4s or conti extreme sport contact 02. Hard to beat the conti’s imo for price.

Here's the size I went with, same size on all 4 corners to make rotations better.

More like a 285/35 or something. Not sure what exact 20" sizes they make

No drag pack here, yet. Laps > traps for me :D. But you will need an 18" drag wheel for the rear and at least a 19" for the front to clear the brakes. I'm eyeballing this pack to eventually pick up unless something else catches my eye: https://www.beefcakeracing.com/weld-ventura-gt500dragpack/.

I'm using my stock DH HP wheels wrapped in Pilot Sport 4S tires with a 325/30R19 on the rear and I really like everything about them except the price. They handle the supercharger decently well for a road tire. For my upcoming HPDEs, I have Steeda's square 19x11 Trident setup wrapped in some 305/30 Bridgestone Potenza Sports that I got a killer deal on but have no warm weather experience with yet.

Thanks @GhastlyTT - I've bounced a few emails with Beefcake this morning.

As I don't drag-track the car I'm looking for street use only and need to balance temperature, dry and wet weather grip. Tread wear isn't such a big deal as I only drive it on weekends or occasionally during the week and only during the summer months.

I've been debating on doing one of the two options; Beef said both will fit my car without having to change wheels

- Swapping the rear G2s for RIIs in 315/35R20
- Swapping the rear G2s for MT ET Street SS also in 315/35R20

So far everything I've heard is the MT Is the way to go if you want the track on weekends (drag) but the Nitto are the way to go if you want "every day" (old man's weekend toy) type use. The nitto handle better in wet weather and down to temps that are around 13C.

As for laps > traps LOL I kept the stock 19" HP wheels with the Trofeo if I decide to try my hand at some track day (laps) this summer.

Let us know how you like them.

I have had the Potenza Sport, PS4S, and Extremecontact Sport on the rear, all the same size, and I'd rank them in that order for straight line traction from worst to best. Not a ton of difference though (they are all ~ 300 treadwear) so I normally run a drag radial.

The factory DH HP rear wheel is 19x11 and ET 52.5. No, I have not encountered any rubbing.

Thanks @GhastlyTT

That is the biggest tire I've seen on the stock DH rims but if it doesn't rub during your events then it wouldn't be an issue on the street. Your front end, while about a half inch lower than mine, is REALLY low lol.

Haha yes, it is pretty low :D Aside from my own sloped driveway though, I've not had any real challenges driving it around.
