Yes I do have the same knock on startup, even though I replaced the flange due to another issue. the knock happens not every time, only occasionally. Sometimes it sounds really loud but at other times it sounds not as loud. it's not getting any worse, and I haven't talked to the dealer about it yet.
Thanks for updating it
Somehow we have to get use to it and follow normal D to P steps to avoid it.

What i do is i got from D To N wait for 1 sec
then N to R hold it for 3 secs and put handbrake and then to P
I dont get this jolt at all on startup!
If i dont follow it i do get a little jolt.

Thank you for sharing this with us! I'll try following your procedure to see if the knock noise will stop.

Are you sure it isn't the exhaust. Both my S550 and S650 have a small exhaust 'pop' just like that on a hot start sometimes.

Hello,
Is there any updates on the topic? Mine does it only if I re-start the car within a few minutes after shuting off the engine. But if the car was off for few hours it starts normal without any issues.
Exact thing happened to me today. I haven’t cold started it to see if it went away. But after 2 more starts it didn’t clunk and lurch, but did it again if I engaged the A10 gears and parked it.

Joining the club. Same noise. Tried all the parking sequence mentionned and none fixed the issue. It was a bit tricky as the sound/knock was not systematic.

However, i'm now able to reproduce the sound 100% of the time: I noticed that when in park in "Normal" driving mode, when I restart (warm or cold) it never does the clunk. When I stop the car in "sport" mode, the sound is audible. When I park the car in "track" mode, the sound is very loud.

I think it has to do with pressure management of the trans then.

Hi to all. I was doing a bit different procedure to avoid the kick/clunk on start up, however as mentioned, when very hot or at certain times let say after refueling and longer drive, it still was kind of present from times to times. Read this post and first time tried today, during 6 hours drive and number of hot start ups, and yes!!!! If you put it in Reverse, handbrake and wait a bit, than Park and shut off, upon next start there is was zero clunk for me too!! That is just amazing. Thank you for sharing!!!
