I’ve been scouring the Internet for a carbon fiber or matte black fuel door cover for my dark horse. All I can find is some cheap Amazon variant that sticks on with a couple of body tape pieces. I decided to go ahead and try wrapping my fuel door (3M 2080 vinyl) until a genuine carbon fiber part comes out to actually replace the fuel door.
I received a lot of great feedback from family and friends, what say you my new friends? I’m brand new to the forum so be gentle on me lol (if you feel the need); otherwise I’m a full grown man and USMC veteran…. So bring it on
Great to be here, look forward to hearing from you!
First thank you for your service. I went in to buy a Dark Horse in the white "storm Trooper" look. I ended up with a Shadow Black one. PP was on hold when trying to get white. So I took over a cancelled order that had all the options. As for the fuel door I would have kept it body color. The good news with vinyl… I can still revert without penalty! Congrats on your pony too!First thank you for your service. I went in to buy a Dark Horse in the white "storm Trooper" look. Maybe the carbon fiber is a Colorado Thing for us!? It’s not as common here. You are absolutely right the mountain roads here on the front range are definitely not going to be Mustang friendly for the next six months or so especially with the stupid summer tires that they put on these things lol! I’m too late to get Michelin pilot sports now. I feel like many of the roads here in Colorado whether you’re in the Springs, Castle Rock, Boulder, Estes Park, or even Denver (or another suburb) require a Mustang DH (or GT PP) in full track mode to avoid a wreck! Thanks!Welcome! I am also in CO. I have found a few good mountain roads to take the mustang but I fear that time is over for the next 6 months. I did just see that High Plains is open year round weather permitting so I am planning to get a few winter tack days in if possible.
As for the fuel door, to each their own. I absolutely love the look of CF.
Oh, that is awesome. Thanks for sharing the tread life on your P zeros! They were definitely making me nervous! Appreciate the encouragement and as for my service, it was truly my honor!@blong7699 ...... Appreciate your service. Because of the color and striping of your Mustang and the proximity of the black wing and the black sections of the rear I'd say it "blongs" fine :-) ...... I don't think it would look good on my 2024 Vapor Blue GT. Unless you're heading straight to the track I'm 100% on keeping those P-Zeros until they need replacing. I had the P-Zs on my 2014 and at 50K they still passed a safety when I sold it to a friend.
I appreciate the kind words Teufel Hunden! It was actually very easy on my S650 because I removed the fuel cap! It literally took depressing a single plastic tab, and then sliding it off. And yes an area this small is pretty simple to apply vinyl too. Easy peasy! Not too bad for a Jar Head, said the Grunt. Actually, I'm thinking that is 5x5. How hard was it to get the vinyl wrap on there? If I had to guess, simple - but I've never worked with the stuff. Any lessons learned?

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Just to make sure I understand what you’re saying you do understand that the fuel cap is round correct? It isn’t shaped like the S550…I would leave the original body colored one .....
I think the round clashes with the more angular lines of the car......
Yep - I dont think the round carbon fiber door on the S650 goes with the more angular lines of the S650Hey, thanks for the feedback! Just to make sure I understand what you’re saying you do understand that the fuel cap is round correct? It isn’t shaped like the S550…
