Not much lighter than aluminum, and twice the cost? Why?

A lot of threads on 6G about CF driveshafts, will be the same thing on your car.

I am considering the use of carbon fiber driveshaft for my Dark Horse.

According to the website https://www.streetmusclemag.com/tec...ions-with-qa1-about-carbon-fiber-driveshafts/

So I am wondering if anyone has done the carbon fiber driveshaft on Dark Horse? I would appreciate any feedback regarding the info and whether anyone has done it? Thanks!
it’s been done on the much more powerful gt500. Go for it. It’s strong, you’ll save weight, and where the weight counts too.

but if you plan to keep it for over 7 years, then don’t get it. It will weaken s bit with age, heat, and won’t take to accidental contact very well.

It’s my understanding that you only buy a CF driveshaft if you plan on breaking it, they shatter and disintegrate when they break, so it keeps from damaging the underside of your car..(where aluminum shafts can wreck a lot)

That, I am aware of it, in the other article there’s some info about other kinds of drive shafts in the streetmusclemag, com which is interesting in some other kinds of drive shafts as well! Thanks!

i am not a driveshaft expert, but using carbon fiber for a driveshaft sounds like a not fantastic idea. the resin will probably degrade with age and heat cycles, with that being even quicker if you really demand a lot from the car often. aluminum driveshafts are already hollow, so you arent even saving that much weight, and they are much more expensive. if you manage to break it, now you have to worry about cleaning up carbon fiber, which is worrysome because if you arent careful, individual carbon fiber filaments can get embedded in your skin and cause constant irritation, possibly until the end of your life. probably just stick with the aluminum ones

I would spend $400 to lose the 9lb with a lightweight ford performance flywheel before I’d pay $2300 to lose 10lbs with a qa1 driveshaft.

I would do both the lightweight ford performance flywheel with the qa1 driveshaft cuz I am not gonna burn rubber much, just take off fast and normal without peeling! The lighter the better! My opinion!

CF driveshafts are meant for a good time, not a long time
