Pretty interesting real-world look at how a large rear wing actually behaves aerodynamically, rather than just assuming bigger = more downforce.

For those of us playing around with aero on the Dark Horse HP — wings, splitters, diffusers, etc. — I thought this was especially interesting.

It also raises a good question: how much of the aftermarket aero available for the Dark Horse is actually functional and properly balanced front-to-rear, versus mostly cosmetic.

That has been my concern with parts sold as "aerodynamic enhancements"... how do you tell? Engine performance parts can show dyno numbers. I would really like to see some aftermarket company (maybe one that sells aero bits) do a full test on what's out there... and of course if they test better than the competition, it should increase their sales... but how many have access to wind tunnel testing?!

Premier Aerodynamics [youtube channel] might be worth asking. They already have the Dark Horse digitally modeled, and they mention in the video that people can contact them with questions/requests.

I'm not sure exactly how their process works or what they charge, but theoretically they could simulate different aftermarket aero parts or combinations on the Dark Horse.

That would be really interesting to see.

Lost all credibility at the 9-10 second mark. Narrator references the Challenger Heckat. Subtitle spells it just like he said it and I wrote it. I bailed at the 11 second mark. Need to work on my reaction time.

The Dark Horse spent about 250 hours "stabled" up in Ford's new $200 million dollar rolling road wind tunnel. My guess is Ford knows exactly how the HP spoiler w/Gurney flap shapes the wind around it.

I believe AJ Hartman Aero is one of the few makers of CF mustang aero products that are extensively tested in a wind tunnel before put on the market. AJ spends hours wind tunnel testing at the A2 Wind Tunnel in Mooresville, N.C., and has numerous YouTube videos of his testing along with some good write ups in Speed News (https://nasaspeed.news/featured/finding-aerodynamic-balance-through-wind-tunnel-testing/) and Grassroots Motorsports. He also, had a former F1 Aerodynamicist as a consultant, designing a lot of his products (https://www.youtube.com/user/Kyleengineers). Interesting fact regarding downforce on F1 Cars. Never going to happen but if a long drivable corkscrew entry and exit were placed on a long upside down highway the following would be possible after 1 & 2 below were covered.

1. F1 Driver willing to display the downforce engineering and capabilities of an F1 car.
2. F1 team owner willing to provide F1 car.

An F1 car creates enough downforce to defy gravity and at speed be planted enough to drive upside down without dropping. To slow entering or exiting the corkscrews or not maintaining speed on the upside down stretch = gravity takes over and bad things happen. That's some serious downforce.

Who needs downforce when you have vacuum? These things are insane! It also beat Top Gears fastest lap record by 3 seconds, that had been held for 20 years by a Renault F1 car.

It’s not downforce but momentum that permits movement otherwise once inverted downforce inherently becomes upforce. .
