How to remove the cover/cap of 12V power socket

I would like to remove this hinged cover/cap:

Preferably without breaking the socket or the front plate in which the socket is mounted.

Any trick to get the ring with the hinge on it out, or the whole socket so the hinge can be dremeled off?

This and the usb ports are in a location that makes the wireless pad not very useful
