It's more than just mooted, it's starting next year for EV's and hybrids.
Although i'm sure there will be plenty of loopholes and opportunities for when you declare your mileage etc (when they ended the free EV tax you could renew your vehicle in the month prior to it ending and get another free year)
That and the upcoming changing in leadership may scrap that charge.

They intend to make it apply to plug-in hybrids but a lot of 'mild hybrids' were registered as hybrid electric in the last 5 years which is going to spanner things.
I think mooted still applies - a long way to go before it happens, if it happens.

I don't understand the first sentence. What does EU regs mean?

For me now the mileage tax is better since I'm retired.
Car type approval in the EU is one set of regulations so that car makers can sell one car spec in all European countries. It actually covers other non EU countries that are aligned with the EU such as the UK.

Those regulations could be argued to be increasing vehicle weights because of added safety systems and much stronger construction methods to pass crash tests, but at the same time SUV's have become more popular which are big and heavy. There are still small light cars available so the regulations themselves haven't automatically increased weight.

Pay per mile is by far the most fair way of doing things but how you do it is the difficult bit.

Pay per mile is obscene. Shouldn’t have any additional tax after purchase.

I'm sorry. This level of English is beyond my understanding.

I just wanted to know what he meant in simple English in his first sentence since I didn't understand it. He started with "you have to admit". But since I didn't understand what he said I can't admit anything lol.

Ironic goes with admit and addresses the scenario outlined that followed as an explanation of said irony.
