More downforce, I'm willing to bet north of 1,000 hp. Something with even more cornering speed and better handling than a stock GTD, but with noticably improved straight line acceleration. I know some people on the forums don't like the GTD, but this is really badass to me.

I don't think it's disliked, it's just an overhyped, underwhelming $325,000 Mustang that:

1. Barely beats a 502hp, $240,000 Porsche around the Nurbginrgingging
2. Loses to a production line built Corvette around the Nurburugningging
3. Barely beats the S550 GT500 in the 1/4 mile

Plus you can't even buy one unless Ford blesses you.

Ok, without stretching, what is the most awesome American car ever made?

Going to take a stab at summarizing the root cause of every argument or perspective related to the GTD in a couple boring engineering statements that strip away branding, and marketing perceptions...

~400k, is the cost of the energy required to move 4300lbs around a particular closed loop path as quickly as possible.

The fact that this particular 4300lbs is based on a specific mass distribution that was constructed to originally provide a cost optimized platform for moving additional mass (people/luggage), leads to perceptions of "value" being off.

FYI the inflation adjusted cost (which is a big factor in the price) for the 2018 GT2RS with Weissach, or AMG GT Black Series is over $400k. Production numbers for each, were less than 1800.

Perhaps this simply highlights how efficient the corvette platform is for this specific task.

So....my personal bottom line is that the GTD is, a really fun, and unique way to achieve a specific task, and not necessarily the most "efficient".

I think the Ford GT, is the coolest American (and let's face it, part Canadian) car made at this point as it is an utterly bespoke and unique platform/architecture.

If the GTD drives like all the reports on the interweb says, that's worth the money on it's own.
Plus, it's nearly unique, you'll not see one at every corner.

A lot of people are mad about it being too expensive, or too extreme for a mustang. Others are mad it doesn't take it far enough by being like a bespoke mid-engine supercar.

I personally think it's an incredible machine. Not only is it putting down some impressive numbers, but I also personally believe Fords using it to see how people respond to the idea of a dedicated mustang supercar before they invest in like a full on bespoke mid-engine mustang platform to really take the fight to the c8.
