Many can't upgrade to the S650....and yes, it is a significant upgrade.
Exterior and Interior alone makes the S550 look like a $25k car compared to the S650.
The hate will be there because they know they can't get one in the near future.
They will get murdered trying to trade in their S550. No one wants one unless it is a specialty GT500, GT350, Mach 1 etc..
When they say the new rear is ugly, I laugh my ass off. The sharp S650 back end is a rock star compared to the dumpy S550 rear.
actually the S650 = Elantra in severa key shapes, so I have sneaking suspicion the sentiment runs the other way. :) :)
Itā€™s the polarization of the comments on display that make this SO entertaining.
BTW, my plain old Magnetic 2016 GT PP setup was as nice to me as my Mach 1.

Well since the front of the S550 looks like a Fusion ...well since Ford discontinued the Fusion, they needed to copy a different sedan- so they copied the Accord in the front .....

All these automotive designers all are younger now. They all go to the same schools, with the same teachers, same associations, clubs, forums and colleagues. Itā€˜s not surprising cars look similar now.

Cars have always looked similar this is nothing new. Just look at any 90s sedan, or mid 2000s compact, or 2010s crossovers. Hell one of the big complaints is that the s650 rear half looks like a last gen camaro, which looks like a S197 mustang, which looks like a modern 60s mustang. You know what else the front end reminds me of...an updated S197 front end.

Its funny because when I saw some of the sharp angles of the S650 - first thing I thought of was both Hyundai and Lamborghini - so go figure that out lol

There are only so many different designs that can be used for vehicle appearances to keep them looking somewhat like a car.... unless you are Telsa (see: Cybertruck)

Iā€™m coming from an S197 and that was the first thing I noticed too. That the front looks like an updated s197

I saw an S650 in person for the first time at an auto show in January, and my immediate reaction was, "Oh, it looks better in person than in pictures." I looked inside, and while the screens weren't powered on, they still looked smaller than I expected. My overall impression was that if my '18 was totaled or something and I had to buy a new one, I could probably handle an S650, even if I didn't like it quite as much as my current car.

Later, I saw a Grabber Blue S650 parked and another one driving down the road, and I thought they looked good. I still think I prefer my S550, and I would hate to have to spend all the money that the S650s cost, but I would still enjoy it.
