That is a huge difference in horsepower going from 125 to 120mm pulley, 632 horsepower jumps up to 711? 8 psi increases to 10psi. That seems like a mistake of some sort, not a real result on the dyno.

When you select options to order the 125 is 7 psi and the 120 is only 8psi, not 10. It does not match what is on the dyno graph.

🤔

Is 125mm the largest pulley, so that 7psi (or 8???) is the lowest you can make the boost level?

What is the Arcane Stage 3? It adds thousands of dollars to the cost if you select it, but I cannot find any description of what it is you are selecting (UPDATE: Google tells me it is a fuel system).

This is a 6th Gen Mustang, 120mm pulley, no asphalt prep, but drag tires.

"So I got my new drag wheels mounted up , went an attempted 1/4 mile dragy pass. I just stopped in road did a very very soft launch in 2nd gear. About 100mph the car started shaking pretty bad and kept getting worse so I let out little after 1/8 mile. Pull over and the tire shop forgot to balance the wheel/tires. So I took back to them and all is good now. Hopefully I'll be able to do another hit tomorrow as it's raining here today. This is on 7.5psi 120mm pulley and e30 full."

Notice how quickly he reaches 120mph. About 8 seconds? And this is on the street. It looks like he sways back and forth a little around 60 mph.

Looks relatively easy to swap pulleys.

Maybe get the biggest pulley for the lowest boost and keep smaller ones on hand for running E30 and E85.

Pulley swaps are very easy (at least it was on my P1X Procharger Stage II). Should be similar on the ESS head unit I would think/hope.

I own that car, it’s not a mistake. If you look carefully the 125mm pulley is on 91 octane and the 120 pulley is 93. That’s why the difference in power. More boost and more ignition timing

Do you know if you can lower the boost below 7psi?

The idea being, say, a 120 pulley for 93 octane on the street or even smaller for E85, but a larger pulley to get the boost down lower to generate less heat for an HPDE track day (still adding some power but not overheating the oil or, gasp, the oil rings twenty five minutes into a session).

I am just exploring possibilities at the moment. Whipple cannot do it, as there is a space limitation for pulley size.

Turbos appear to be able to lower just as low as a spring in the waste gate allows (just swap to a weaker one if needed) then crank it back up when finished with the track day.

Any idea about ESS and the possibility (and practicality) of lower boost?

Centrifugal SC build boost with rpm so if you want to limit boost you can avoid revving it past the rpm that produces the amoubt of boost desired. A tuner can set the rpm limiter where you want it to be. If you want boost to come in sooner get a smaller pulley and set up the rpm limiter accordingly. Keep in mind that when you upshift the boost will drop so you need to find that sweet spot to keep you going.

I ordered mine from Graveyard performance 5 weeks ago for the 2nd production batch. It should ship any day now. Was hoping to put the box under my tree, but its not shipped yet from ESS. But its been paid for and ordered. I will be building my tunes on it along with pop/flame and ghost cam tunes for the base kit and with options like injectors and fuel systems. Coming soon...

not being a wiseguy, I just am not familiar with it. Why would anyone do one of these instead of a whipple. With some options it only a couple of grand cheaper and can't have the research and development that Whipple has. How about any warranty? None I would guess.

Because it serves a different use case than the Whipple. It’s a supercharger but it’s a centrifugal supercharger which make its power differently than the positive displacement type superchargers like Whipple.

The Whipple warranty for stage 1 is useful for some things but is really a lot more limited than it sounds. You’re not missing out on much by not having it and a lot of guys opt for Stage 2 anyway which doesn’t have the warranty.

There is always more to learn of course, but much is already known about the coyote motors. So boosting them with Whipple, Roush, ESS, ProCharger, etc. is pretty safe as long as your tuner, installer, and of course you the driver know what you’re doing. If it was a brand new from scratch motor then I think that would weigh more
