I thought the same, by the time I configured the GT premium with performance pkg, and the opinions i wanted it was close enough to the Dark Horse in price to go for it.
I initially reached that conclusion but then found I could get a lot more off MSRP with the GT, which tilted me back in that direction. Even so, if I wanted a manual or planned to track the car I would have gotten a DH.

I agree with the “sweet spot” conclusion. I use my DH as a daily driver. It has 500 HP….an absolute massive amount of power….i got the thing for 75k out the door with all taxes and fees. Just a hell of a deal all things considered. The SC adds hundreds of HP, tens of thousands of dollars; and takes away the manual. Ehh…no thanks.

Ya it took awhile they all the dealers used same line "this is a limited car" which really its not. I do want to track just haven't yet.

It is very limited in my area. Not taking the dealer side on this. But they are very limited.

It is a limited car. Most dealers get allocation for one or two per model year.

If you don't believe me, call around and ask dealers if they have allocation for a Dark Horse.

At this time of year, most have said they can place the order, but it will be a MY 2027 at this point and won't arrive until fall.

To be fair, a GT with a performance package might be ever rarer in my area.

I had been watching the market for 6 months before pulling the trigger,... a DH with handling package never showed up on the lots. Still isn't available 2 months later. I guess Colorado has more money than the rest of the country.

I'll respectfully disagree at least how I view what is limited. Ford hasn't defined how many they will make in order to make it limited. I think the DH is a higher trim level and can sit on a dealership lot because of the price of the trim level. I just can't make the leap that of what the dealerships are saying. More of a sales tactic to move a higher priced car.

IMO, somewhere around 2020, The switch was flipped and all luxury items became limited to some extent. Rolex watches are a good example of it. Raptor Rs are another. By intentionally reducing supply it allowed for the margins to increase. And in business, it has always been easier to make money selling 1 item versus selling a 100. If Ford didn't want Raptor Rs selling over MSRP...then it wouldn't be happening. But these are now the days we live in. It's not a selling pitch but rather a simple reality.

How is it a "tactic" when a dealer can only order one or two a year?

This isn't a negotiating tactic; if you walk into a dealer ready to buy, they will tell you they can't order one and get it to you before fall as a MY 2027, both big dealers and small. 🤷‍♂️

They're not intentionally limiting production at Rolex, they're simply selling all they make and are making as many as they ever have.

For better or worse, Covid flipped people's attitudes towards luxury goods like Rolex watches and rather than being something that they'll purchase “someday” or when they retire, they've become items that people will purchase because “You don't know what tomorrow will bring, I might die tomorrow.”

Sure Rolex dealers had wait lists for some watches in the 2010s but not a two year list for even Submariners and Explorer IIs.

For better or worse, Ford limits production of DH Mustangs and if you want one, either you need to buy what's left over on a lot or wait to order what you want; you can get a GT Premium in about ten weeks.

Maybe in your area big and small. There where 4 on the lot where I went. Then one that met my requirements plus extra features an hour away.

Keeping everyone in the dark is a sales tactic. Do you know how long they are making the DH or how many? It's not a limited model in the fact they are saying we are making "x" amount and that's all. By Keeping everyone in the dark it drives an unknown so people can fear on missing out and hopefully keep the price high in the higher trim model. When it starts to fail they will offer the discounts to move them, like they did when I bought one, then move onto a new trim and start over. Mach 1 then DH. DH then whatever is next. Maybe smaller number compared to a GT but Ford will make them as long as they can keep making the higher dollar profit off them.

For a limited it has to be small quantity and defined. Example stars and stripe edition of the C8 only 250 made. This is "limited" but even that is limited by paint scheme. Not 100% sure if there was anything else special about that model. I never really followed the GT but that was probably a limited car. Ford said apply because we are making "x" amount and if you dont get one go pay the up charge from a private seller if you can find one.
