Hey guys happy holidays! I have a base 2024 gt and I just installed dash cam using 12v outlet and noticed when I shut off the car, the 12v stays on for 2 plus hours. I'm not sure if this is normal and if it is, won't this drain my battery? I mean I would HATE to manually turn off/on my dash cam as I always forget to turn off things. For those who uses dash cam using 12v, how do you guys manage this issue??! Thanks

I have my dashcam plugged into the USB behind the mirror, which also stays on for 2 hours or so. I have yet to have my battery drain so far that it would not start the car. The computer will power down some of the modules if the battery drops too low, and you will see a notification in the FordPass app if that happens.

Oh ok, I guess this is the norm? I'm just afraid one day coming to a dead battery to start my car...

Have not check/tried this in the DH yet, but I used FORScan to adjust how long the powerpoint stays active in my F150. I believe I changed it to 20 seconds.

The car will not allow the battery to drain that far if the car is driven normally, i.e. a couple days a week. I rode my motorcycle for a week and a half straight, and all I got was the "your car has shut down remote monitoring stuff to preserve battery life" notification in the app. When I went to start the car a few days later, it started and ran fine.

Sort of a side light...

I have several of their V1P dash cams with the add-on rear camera. They come with a weed-lighter power cable, but you can buy an accessory cable which wires into the mini fuse slots. Within this cable is a regulator which converts the 12 to 5 volts.

I sent an email to Rexing asking if they make a power cable with a USB connector. Their customer service person returned the email, telling me they require 12 volts! That part is not true!

What is true, on a Ford products, the fuses are inset far enough that the hard-wired adapter does not fit correctly resulting in a loose contact. Now that I have a Mustang with its nearby USB port, I wanted to buy the a short cable. I just happened to have an old Motorola cellphone charger cable which fit into the power port of the V1P. Problem solved.

If you own a Rexing, I sure you could find a short USB cable with the appropriate other end connector at Wally World or Big Lots.

I purchased a tiny 12V to USB 5V adapter from eBay for less than $2. Opened the cover behind the mirror and installed it there. Then shortened the dashcam USB cable and plugged it there. Turns on when car on, and turns off when car off.

Thanks for the reply bimmerborn, but I've heard that people with Performance pack which had the usb on mirror has the same issue which the dash stays on for 1hr+
I will look into your suggestion, thanks
