This is on my winter TO DO LIST. I've been starting my mid life crisis and listening to a lot of stuff with bass in it these days and yeah, the B&O is lacking in the low end for sure. Time to do something about that.

I think there was a really great HOW TO on here somewhere; pretty sure I bookmarked it.
I wonder if with the same amp you can actually achieve a real change rather than placebo. I believe it's a very small amp that will have trouble moving a heavier sub.

I'm not sure that it is placebo. The cone on an aftermarket sub vs what is in the DH is night and day different. That being said, my days of spending small fortunes for a head unit, amp and dual 12" subs are long behind me.

I'm in the same boat, I will not do anything major, but just swapping the speaker maybe. Having said that, it's usually a balance, a great speaker under amplified is worth very little, the other way around as well...

The aftermarket sub is worth the beans. The Pioneer D10DD4 sub truly changes how your music in the Darkhorse sounds. A good friend of mines that does stereo systems in vehicles told me that the DH amp pushes about 300+ watts to the sub. The Pioneer is rated at 400 watts continuous. That is more than enough power to give that sub decent sound.

As far as putting it in:
1. 13mm socket.
2. Remove the 3 bolts. (2 on the bottom, 1 on the side closest to the rear)
3. Unclip the main wire (behind sub)
4. Put on a workbench; use a pry tool to carefully pull off the outer ring.
5. Using a star bit, remove grill screws.
6. Use a flat pry to pull the sub up. (It's on there with sticky compound).
7. Unplug the wires.
8. Get your Red Wire kit out; plug them into the connections. Strip the ends off.
9. Get your new Sub ready. plug red to red, black to black on both posts.
10. Line up some of the holes. Using a drill, drill out the holes that do not line up well.
11. Test fit your speaker.
12 OPTIONAL: Fill speaker with Polly Fill. Make sure it gets to all corners.
13. Place sub; screw it in.
14. OPTIONAL: Replace grill and set the OEM outer ring.
15. OPTIONAL: Use the Pioneer supplied outer ring (easier IMO)
16. Place speaker back in trunk, hook up main harness wire, and go test music.
17. Replace the 3 bolts, tighten down. Close trunk. Enjoy bass-filled music and better sound.
