You trust your saftey to a cheap chinese airbag? You realize the airbags and logos on it have intended breaking points so the airbag can safely rip through them? I wouldn't trust a custom leather or custom emblems to be able to let the airbag deploy correctly without accelerating thousands of shards into your face at deadly speed.

But hey, tons of people are dumb enough to glue aftermarket carbon stuff onto their airbags because it looks nice.

@9itmare Your airbag looks nice, but the off centered line on the bottom would drive me crazy

I've used Ali Express for years. Bought a lot of bike bits and electronics, duds have been pretty rare.
Generally quality is OK. Checking reviews helps, but isn't foolproof.
I'd be cautious with safety critical stuff.
It is by far my go to for purchasing online, have been screwed over 100% of my ordered from Amazon and ebay. AliExpress is the only web site I buy from with exception from direct manufacture stores.

As others have mentioned, don't play with airbag panels, changing them with non-OEM parts or by modifying them. You gonna potentially risk your life (and it's not an exaggeration).

It's an interesting point on the airbag deployment. I wonder if guys like C2 and the other Mustang related steering wheel folks have done any R&D? I spent some time on Google but the answers were ambiguous at best.

I doubt they would conduct any test (or at least in the way they should be conducted) to get approved, they are very expensive, even for the car manufacturers.
There could be also implication with the insurance if something bad happen (even if it's not related specifically to that part) and they'll find you "modified" it.
I wouldn't play with the safety accessories at all, it goes beyond the aesthetics and it's too risky.

I was talking to C2CUSTOMS yesterday confirming a few things prior to placing an order. They do some solid work and he owns a Dark Horse himself so figured it was a safe bet. I may need to call my insurance and ask them "Hey, completely hypothetical here but what if I......" and see what they say. See what they say before I pull the trigger.

What do you expect them to say? "I'm gonna modify an important safety accessory in my car.. what happens if the dark horse emblem will be casted into my right eye plus head at 80mph?" :D

LOL I would approach it at more of a high level. More like "What parts of my vehicle will, if modified, void my insurance should I file a claim".

Be sure to specify that it's about injuries... coz they won't care about your airbags or safety components, if you bruised your bumper.

I think the "thousands of shards into your face" line is a bit of an exaggeration. Generally, the steering wheel airbag cover is designed to split around the emblem and along the curve of one side of the panel, not straight down the middle and through the emblem like a set of French doors.

That isn't to say that caution shouldn't be taken and research shouldn't be done. Some websites, like exclusivesteering.com, explicitly state that their steering wheels are for show/off-road use and are not safety tested or rated. Others are more ambiguous with their methods.

As far as an airbag from Alibaba, I'd be impressed if it had a seam at all and didn't just launch the whole panel into somebodies face at 100m/s.

Yep. You'll be looking like Charles Manson with a Dark Horse imprinted on your forehead.😇

No, these emblems are not regulars ones and are meant to break for the airbag without shattering. Not a Mustang, just imagine this guy would have glued an aftermarket emblem over his OEM emblem on the airbag

Where do you think your air bag is from? Most likely Taiwan. Regardless it's still China.
