if you are just looking for a front and rear camera, not crazily priced or anything, check out the Viofo A229 Plus or Pro. they are both currently on sale on Amazon for 20% off. the A229 Plus records 2k front and rear. the A229 Pro records 4k front and 2k rear. both use front and rear Sony Starvis 2 sensors, which is good because the Starvis 2 line is widely regarded as some of, if not the best line of image sensors out there due to their excellent image quality and improved low-light performance compared to the original Starvis lineup

If you look around, you'll find over 35 manufacturers of dash cams. A large portion are literal duplicates save for the name. Some aren't worth the effort, while others are over priced. While newer models might have Sony's so-called new sensor, mounted behind a plastic lens more or less negating its capabilities. Hype or no hype, there are a few things to consider.

Resolution is a prime attribute, with the latest ones advertising 5K which is marginally better than 4K. This said, too many are only 4K or 5K forward, and have lower resolution rearward. You might pay a bit more, but 4K or 5K front and rear is clearly the way to go.

As mentioned, too many cheap brands use plastic lenses, so do your best to avoid them.

If it doesn't have GPS and remote viewing, don't buy it.

Keep the lenses and glass in front of them clean! Even then, rear cams which look through highly-slanted glass (Mustangs for example) are not going to be as clear no matter the resolution. The same goes for heavily tinted glass.

A few have a third cam looking at the driver. Whether that is good or bad is a personal choice as is turning off the audio.

Lastly, remember this: If you drive like an ass, leave the exhaust on drag or track, and cuss endlessly at other drivers, sooner or later your dash cam will aid in earning citations and/or losing your license!

Maybe the FitCamX, a few of us here including myself have this one.

It’s not the best, but it certainly looks the best.
I had the FitCamX on my last S550. It looks completely OEM and your passengers don't even know its there. No unsightly cords or shit stuck to your windshield. I found the resolution to be excellent, though the download process was a bit of a PITA. While not the best, for the price and looks, I would definitely buy again.
