Ok so need some guidance.

In hindsight should have spent the money to have it trailered…

my dealer went to get the car 580 miles away.

of course there is a rock chip down to the metal in the hood…

about the size of one of the letters in this post.
I’m 53 and this is my “heading into retirement” weekend toy- likely last car I’ll ever buy of this kind. I may buy a daily driver again but my intent is to keep this car and hand it down to my son in 30 years.

what is the best way to repair this?

Ok maybe I’m not clear.

Im looking for correct process, the dealer has already agreed to fix it.

However, I don’t want the dealer to get “bob the touch up guy” to come out and fix it poorly. I’ve worked in dealerships for 20 years and quite often they skimp by.

I do not know the paint quality of these vehicles, and am asking for guidance on proper repair.

What’s the color? The process is the same for repairing paint on any other vehicle. If your DH has metallic paint they may have to paint more than just the chip area to “blend” it all together. In any case you’ll want to wait about 90 days for the paint to cure before applying PPF or anything if that is in the plans for the vehicle. The paint instructions will say for sure

It’s Race Red- so non metallic,

Wet sand, primer, paint pen, repeat, wet sand and clear is my understanding.

Im thinking of just telling them to let me fix it. Otherwise im sure it won’t be a lasting repair.

im at almost $9k off the car already and they are over allowing on the trade based on other offers- and i want it done correctly,

and yes, PPF and Ceramic are in the future…

Thanks

No prob and you got it! I would ask them who they plan on using to repair it. And then you can look up the guy or shop’s reputation. If you’re satisfied let them do it, if not then tell them you’ll do it yourself. Sounds like you got the process down 👍🏾

Have you tried asking the dealer who they use for repairs like this? My dealer has a paint specialist that they have on retainer to fix small things like rock chips. He did an amazing job with a door ding on my Mustang.

It’s a conversation we will have prior to delivery. The car got here a day late and it’s in Ford Jail at the moment due to the stop sale 🤣💀🤬😥

You’re overthinking it. Let the dealer fix it. If it doesn’t look good, make them do it over. My guess is you won’t be able to see the spot after they fix it.

Sorry to hear your car is being detained. Any word on how long to get a replacement LED?

So, you bought and paid for a new car, and your dealer will be sitting on it until 2026? Do I have this right? 😲

Yep. They didn’t RDR it so we’re just waiting to redo the deal when I can buy it .
The GM is going to honor everything whenever we can actually transact on it.

in the mean time I will keep the miles off the trade

I'd tell them I want an "as new" repair. As in, invisible.

So would I, LouG with any dealer.

I accepted my car with a significant scrape on the large rear plastic facia part. My dealer pointed it out to me quickly when I went to finish the deal and they told me they would replace it when the already ordered part came in. The part came in and they did a perfect job in replacing the bad part on my car. I know my dealer and trust them. They do what they say they will do and more. Indeed a rare car dealer.

Well, that’s some consolation. Sorry to hear about the terrible timing.
