Auto StartStop

New to the group so maybe this has been discussed (if so, I couldn’t find it.) I’m not a mechanical engineer but I feel like the stop/start feature in normal mode can’t be good for the car. Is this just some EPA bs that’s now required or does it really help with MPG? Does is hurt the motor/starter? 99% of my driving is stop light to stop light so it activates quite a lot on even a short drive. One kinda interesting note is it only “stops” for a short time when the AC is on, but seems like it’ll stay “stopped” forever with the AC and seat coolers off. I understand why, but with the AC on, it really seems pointless to turn itself off for 15-20 seconds. Also, it seems like the start up is kinda violent sometimes. Like the whole car feels like it jumped a bit. I learned to release the brake and not hit the gas pretty quickly but I don’t even know if this is a good feature. Thank you for your insight. Manufacturers say it does no harm, I'm not convinced. They've probably upgraded the starter etc, but there is still a lot of extra load on the ring gear and pinion.
There's an argument that constant starting from zero oil pressure is not good. But that seems to ignore that fact that oil film strength is very good now, the oil has already been hot and circulating, and clearances in the engine are at normal operating levels.
My main objection is that it's one more slight delay as you're trying to take a gap in heavy traffic at a roundabout, etc.
And, I hate it.

I'm not a fan at all and installed the harness from 4D Tech that allows it to remain off at each start unless the button is pressed in the dash.

Start stop is the worst feature ever invented for a car.

Either get used to disabling it upon start up, or set a custom drive profile with it deactivated. (Ecoboosts have drive profiles?)

No, it isn't good for cars. You can read in thousands of places that the most wear in an engine occurs at start up. And, no, in my opinion, it doesn't improve gas mileage. I think car makers are desperate to meet EPA CAFE standards, thus this dumb feature.

I'm just used to starting my car and immediately hitting the start/stop delete button right next to the start button. Start/stop has to be the most asinine features to ever be put in a car.

BTW, I have a lifetime car average of 20.2 mpg. I've never re-set "Trip 2" since I got the car 3700 miles ago so it includes all kinds of driving. I don't think 20.2 is bad at all and my car isn't babied. It's seen it's share of speed and hard pedal pushing. FWIW. FD

I set my custom drive profile to:

Comfort steering
Track Exhaust
Traction Control Off
auto stop/start Disabled

Nice to do all that with one click upwards on the steering wheel button.

I can watch my average (trip) mpg drop when sitting at a stop light. So, it does work, but I don't care for it. I use it when I'm at long lights.

They do have drive modes. And a quick double tap down into sport disables the start/stop. I guess my main concern is if start/stop has ANY benefit whatsoever and it seems like it does not.

In my case, it’s more like a kitten going to sleep. lol.

I thought I would outsmart it. I sat up a mode just like normal except with the auto irritation turned off. It didn't work. At start up the mode goes to normal. One for Ford zero for me. I will have to develop muscle memory to disable on start up.

It's very simple to install the adapter to prevent it from turning on. Took me 5 minutes. No more remembering to hit the button. Yeah, it's not a value for what it is, but totally worth if for me.
