Anyone know of a good product to make the inside of the wheel guards/fenders "blacker", even if it's only temporary.

Mine are starting to go a bit dull.

I got advice that some of that spray on tyre foam stuff can work, just apply it after each wash. Reckon this is ok, or a bad idea?

Now that they use a carpet material, enhancing the wheel arch liners becomes hard. On plastic liners, you could dress them like a tyre, or even apply a ceramic coating. On carpet liners, I really don't have a recommendation for this other than making sure you flush them out with a pressure washer. If you did want to try a dressing, make sure its a water-based one like Carpro Perl, 303 Protectant or well diluted Meguiar's Hyper Dressing (5:1). Using a solvent product here will create more problems than you solve.

A very fast turnaround from the guys at Waxit!

S650 Mustang Aussie S650 Paint protection and detailing thread IMG-8394

For this year's Waxit Black Friday sale, I went a little berserk! In defence, I had been holding off ordering some of this until the sale kicked off.

- Carpro Reset is a high use soap for me. At $134.95, it's always expensive in 4-litre containers. I probably can't quote the price I paid for it this time as the 20% sale discount applies to a trade price that I'm lucky to get, but it was quite the saving.

- The same applies to NV Purge, especially after a recent price hike. Purge is the only dedicated wheel cleaner I bother with now. Some of its rivals work the same or worse but cost more, so I just stick with Purge.

- I also needed a good bulk soap, something more affordable than Reset and GSF. I had been waiting on another brands soap to return to stock, but it's been months now and I needed something right away. Frankly, the quality of NV Snow cannot be beaten at this price.

- KCx Active Foam and GSF are always a pleasure to use. This sale brings them back to the price they were when Waxit took over earlier in the year.

- I've been using the pre-mixed Hydr02 Lite for a while now as I found mixing my own via the concentrate to be a little unstable. I've since found out that Hydr02 Lite is effectively made at a 1:9 ratio, so I'll give that a go and see if it solves the issues I had when mixed at 1:6.

- The green liquid with a handwritten Wise Guy label was on clearance due to a batch of missing labels. Considering I mix it up in bulk, the lack of label doesn't bother me.

- The price of the 1-litre measuring cups was too good to ignore. Always handy to have, these will probably get used for machinery maintenance rather than detailing.

- The Solution Finish had been out of stock for months, and my bottle was nearly empty. ADS Trim+ has probably replaced this product for longer-term trim restoration, but for whatever reason, I think Solution Finish is the safer.

- The Carpro Dilute bottles I use for back-to-back product testing and easy dilution ratio calculations. These come with normal Carpro spray heads.

- Finally, a new product from Carpro, the Finger Print wheel mitt. These use the same fibres as the benchmark Dab Dab wash pads, but are smaller than the virtually useless Wheels Mitt. At about 15cm x 15cm, these are similar in concept to the TRC Ultra Wheel Mitt and ideal for intricate wheel spokes. So far, I haven't seen much content on this wash mitt.

Some good buys @DFB5.0 .

I'm keen to try that wheel mitt too. I've been using the lamb skin ones from Rag Company. They work well, but after a while they start shedding like crazy. So I'm thinking a microfiber one might work better.

I'm really keen to hear how you go with Hydro2. I've been looking for something that I can use to get some protection on a car quickly and easily. Something like Happy Ending that goes on with a foam gun is ideal from a quick and easy point of view, but I want to give Hydro2 a go.

I'll have to let you know on the Carpro Finger Print.

I've been using the TRC Ultra Wool Mitt as well, perfectly sized. As you say, they tend to shed over time. I also have their Ultra Wheel Mitt, which the microfiber version, but its a little too big. What they need to do is make it the same size as the wool version and it would be perfect.

As for Hydr02, if haven't used something like this before, I'd suggest getting a bottle of Gyeon Wet Coat from Repco or Supercheap. This is premixed and very easy/forgiving to use. Just make sure you use these products out of the sun and on cool surfaces or you will have a problem on your hands. So, work small sections with two or three sprays, then rinse immediately, no delay!

Gyeon Wetcoat Sealant 500mL | Supercheap Auto
Gyeon Q²M Wetcoat Sealant 500ml - 116047 - Gyeon | Repco Australia

If you end up liking it, then you can order Hydr02 concentrate and mix your own with demineralized water.

Oh I do have Wet Coat. I mainly use it to top up the ceramic coating on my wheels. I have used it on the paint as well with good results. I still I enjoy the process of foaming the car with the foam canon more than the Wet Coat or Hydro2 method, but I'm keen to try Hydro2 or maybe even Hydro2 foam.

Gotcha.

Hydr02 Foam has probably the most pronounced before and after of this type of soap, but it doesn't really foam. I guess it depends on what you want from it, for me the claim of "foam" has me expecting foam and not just watery soap. So, if all you want to do is "foam" then rinse, this is a good option.

This picture is with the product on the paint, not exactly foam in my book.

If you want to use the soap the soap for washing, then I'd be looking at Koch Chemie Ceramic Effect Soap (CES). This stuff produces a crazy slick surface and excellent hydrophobic qualities. I haven't tried foaming as they don't recommend it, so it's a bucket soap only. Like Hydr02, you wouldn't use this at every wash, I've been using every few months instead of a foaming wash. CES is also better than KCX's own Nano Magic and Protector Wax alternatives. Smells lovely too.

A commission? I'll settle for trade discount.

Check this video out when you get a chance. We don't get S0.03 yet, but Protector Wax and CES are available via Waxit.

Carpro FingerPrint Wheel Cleaning Mitt

For those who have been here for a while, you'll remember the lengths I went to in attempting to clean the gloss black Performance Pack wheels on my first Mustang. This was a process of trial and error that involved multiple tool and technique changes over several years trying to find the sweet spot. Gloss black wheels are hard to keep clean at the best of times, but the intricate spoke design made it even harder on these. If nothing else, those wheels taught me how to thoroughly clean just about any wheel design, forcing me to try different tools and techniques.

In 2020, I spotted a certain Youtuber using a small lambskin mitt, which I thought would be ideal for the Performance Pack wheels. I don't like regular wash mitts, I find them cumbersome to put on and remove between the use of each tool. So, the concept of a finger mitt seemed like the perfect solution.

This is around the same when I began to get frustrated by how slowly the detailing industry moves in Australia. Everything I would see and want was never available.................not unless you wanted to pay several hundred dollars to ship a $20 order. So, do you think I could find someone to sell me a small finger mitt for wheel cleaning? Of course not. And so began a search for something similar to those wool mitts.

The first was these small Gyeon microfiber applicators. These are typically used for the application of coatings, dressings and conditioners. While they worked, I found them too small to be efficient and they'd fall off my fingers to easily. FAIL.

Twelve months later, and many hours of searching, I bit the bullet and ordered the Flexi-pad wool mitts that had originally caught my eye. The shipping was insane, but it's what I wanted and I made sure to order enough to make the shipping more palatable. Finally, the search was over, and it turned out to be EXACTLY what I had been looking for.

S650 Mustang Aussie S650 Paint protection and detailing thread IMG_0060

And..........................a few months later Maxshine started to offer their microfiber take on those Flexi-pads. Again, this sort of thing became a pattern, me not finding what I want, settling for something sub-par or paying through the nose on shipping, then what I had been pinning for suddenly turns up not long after. Following the Maxshine's, The Rag Company introduced the microfiber Ultra Wheel Mitt, then in recent times, the Ultra Wool Mitt. And that's before you consider all of the no-name Amazon copies that have surfaced since.

I mention all of the above because the situation went from being absolutely nothing available to now being spoilt for choice. And now Carpro have joined the party with their new FingerPrint wheel cleaning mitt.

CARPRO FingerPrint Mini Wheel Mitt – Waxit Car Care

S650 Mustang Aussie S650 Paint protection and detailing thread IMG_E8413

The FingerPrint uses the same microfiber as used on their benchmark Dab Dab wash pads. That means a thick, lush microfiber material that has just the right amount of weight. Measuring 15cm x 15m, the 2cm thickness makes it contourable and able to fit between tightly spaced wheel spokes. The FingerPrint has a divided inner lining, which helps keep the mitt located on your hand rather than flopping from side to side and potentially coming off. There is also a banded cuff and elasticated loop for hang drying.

S650 Mustang Aussie S650 Paint protection and detailing thread IMG_E8402

S650 Mustang Aussie S650 Paint protection and detailing thread IMG_E8403

FingerPrint vs Rivals -

- The Maxshine's I don't recommend. The microfiber material they went with is far too grabby, in that I mean it does not release dirt and debris properly. That gets old pretty quick.

- The Flexi-pads in Australia are economically unviable. I also didn't like the lack of a cuff, which made it hard to find the opening after being submerged in water. Both are reasons why I never re-ordered them.

- The TRC Ultra Wool, TRC Ultra Microfiber and Carpro FingerPrint all have a banded cuff. Might sound like a minor thing, but it certainly improves the functionality.

- In terms of sizing, the Ultra Wool is the smallest, the Ultra Microfiber the largest, and the FingerPrint sits in the middle. I personally prefer the size of the Ultra Wool, with the Ultra Microfiber being a touch large and tends to move around on your hand when in use.

- I find the thickness of the Ultra Microfiber is too thin, which combined with the extra size, it compromises the effectiveness. The Ultra Wool and FingerPrint are winners here because they have a thicker, plusher material to hold their shape better.

- From experience, the Ultra Wool material degrades very quickly. In that I mean the dye washes out of the fibres, and they tend to shed material over time. The microfiber alternatives will last in service much, much longer.

FingerPrint in Action-

Firstly, I really like how the lining is divided so that your hand stays in place throughout use rather than slipping or falling off. I also like the middle ground size and thickness, the extra body over the Ultra Microfiber makes it vastly more effective.

The FingerPrint is not perfect, but it's much better than the TRC Ultra Wheel Mitt, namely because of the superior size/thickness ratio. The only change I'd make to the FingerPrint, and TRC Ultra Microfiber, would be to size it closer to the TRC Ultra Wool. That would deliver the ideal size and weight with the durability of microfiber.

The below video shows the FingerPrint in action. In this case, I'm using it to clean the wheel face, as well as between and behind the spokes.

Overall, the FingerPrint is an ergonomic and efficient way of cleaning wheels.

Been looking exactly one of those. A regular wash mitt is a PITA and I find it doesn't get all the nooks on the Mustang wheels to the point where I've literally been raw dogging cleaning my wheels with my fingers :D

Added to the list of xmas purchases.

Thanks mate. Ordered some to try out. Also got Hydro2 in foam and lite version so see which way of applying I like most.

With Hydr02 Foam, if you've mixed up a 1-litre solution for your foam cannon, you'll only use a 250 - 300ml of that per vehicle. So, either mix up in small quantities, or as I do, mix up 1-litre using demineralized water and store it in a separate container. The demineralized water is important for storage as the minerals in tap water can "attack" the soap chemistry, which is something you really don't want with a soap with such a high sealant activity.
