I had a club on my '87 Camaro and it still got stolen from the train station parking lot. They left the club in the parking spot. Car was found with a dead battery as a gas station in Baltimore, as it knew the owner wasn't driving it. They simply cut through the steering wheel to remove the club. Next one I bought locked the steering wheel to the brake pedal.

I had one on my '65 and it worked well. A couple of times though I didn't remember to switch the fuel back on before driving off!
Not sure if that kind of switch would work or be suitable with our modern cars with all their technology and systems. If it did it would be one of the cleanest anti theft solutions.

The only potential issue i could see is car throwing a code if you ever forget to turn it on before startup , something i will research in the future . If i am to do it it will be via a switched Relay next to fuel pump , dont want any voltage drop issues running long wires .

Edit .. Plenty advoacting club locks in thread but its more of a visual detterent than an actual one , any decent thief will circumvent one of those in a minute , easier to cut the wheel than the lock . Back in 90's someones tried to pinch my pristine SS torana and they got the club of easy , luckily i had other security methods and i got to keep the car . These Guys broke into and moved 2 cars to get a clear path to get my car out

This is a good idea.

I would lean towards powering the hot side of the relay from a fuse tap in a spare fuse slot (BJB F140 or F125). Ground side of the relay would connect to the switch. Other switch contact would find a chassis ground near where the switch is mounted,

The only drama I see is running a wire from the cabin through the firewall into the engine bay.

I know there is a grommet near the brake fluid reservoir that is accessible, but what about from the inside?

Any thoughts on that?

(And for any Americans viewing, this is an Aussie RHD thread, and your LHD engine bay layout is different)

From memory, the fuel pump is under a hatch under the rear seat on the passenger (Aust.) side.
If you ever sort it I would be interested in doing it as well.
I definitely do not want a large lump of metal club lock floating around in my car. I had a GPS tracker on the car up until 3g was dropped. The 4g versions come with a too hefty yearly fee.

Interrupting a power wire on an old-school fuel pump would have been easy.
But these days, hmmmmm.

If I'm going to install a hidden switch, it could be a toggle switch somewhere behind the actual OBD2 port, possibly mounted off the sturdy metal bracket. Thinking... JB Weld an aloominium L bracket at the rear?

The switch could break either the CAN-H or CAN-L (it doesn't matter) wire.

In the heat of the moment, it's unlikely the scumbag is going to get their head under there with a torch and start looking or fumbling around for something - not knowing what they're actually looking for.
(Personally I hate contorting myself to look under here - it really screws up my back doing so these days!)

Disrupting one of the CAN-bus lines means they can't perform a CAN-bus injection attack of any sort to begin with - the CAN bus will appear "dead" to them. No starting the car, no disabling the security system, no cloning a key fob. No nuttin.


Might as well use DPDT switch (double pole, double throw) and disable one of the medium-speed CAN lines as well. (I'm not sure if these CAN-bus hacker boxes use the MS CAN lines for anything, but just to be safe.)


If they thought their $500 Chinese hacker box bought off Alibaba has died, then that would be hilarious!

This wouldn't affect your daily use; ie; forgetting to flick the switch to kill the fuel pump before leaving the vehicle -or- forgetting to re-enable it when you get back in.
Avoids that moment.

Yep. It's visible just above the steering shaft. The parking sensor "installer" used it.
PS Still haven't fitted my cam. maybe this month.

My new "device", of which I bought two last week (one for each car) was defeated easily.

The seat belt lock might still be deterrent for the lazy thief, but I have something a lot more higher tech, and it involves this that was delivered yesterday:

Will involve some wire snipping and soldering to customise this into what's really needed.
