Hello, I have been working towards being able to upgrade my 100A (super base model) 2024 Ecoboost to a new 401A GT. The EB has been extremely reliable, I drive it every day - 22k miles now.

I have been planning to get a new 401A GT mainly because I want built in navigation, but also because I want the premium mirrors with turn signals.

I am getting confused about navigation though, does that require a paid subscription now?

Also, my favorite part about this 2024 EB is the chrome trimmed headlights. Does anyone know if there would be an issue swapping these 2024 chrome trimmed headlights onto a 2026+ GT? I know these new tech heavy cars can be sensitive.

Thank you!

You are better off using Android Auto or Apple Car Play and using Google Maps or WAZE which is now owned by Google

IIRC When the phone's android auto is paired either by cable or wirelessly the Navigation/maps defaults to the Phone's app.

I don't know who Ford uses for their maps, but I know Garmin updates once a year and it can take years for new roads, changes to one way streets, exit numbers, etc etc etc to show up. Ask anyone who has a Toyota that has to go buy a memory card with the maps on it that not only are expensive but garbage.

Based on comments I have read on other threads, the built-in Ford navigation can still be used after the free year is up, but you don’t get data updates. You could use it for a couple of years without updates, then subscribe for a year to get up-to-date map data again.

Or, as has already been mentioned, just use your phone’s navigation through Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Thank you for the replies. I was kind of hoping to avoid connecting my phone to this next car, but it makes sense that Apple/Android would have the most up to date maps, and it would probably be easier to set a destination with my phone anyway.

When you hit the icon on the steering wheel that is for the voice activation, you can voice navigate from that

This car has been the best I've had for easy, reliable wireless phone connection, by a country mile.

What are the premium mirrors? 77.99
Not sure if you realized I was talking about the side mirror turn indicators, not the actual glass or rear view mirror .. swapping on the premium turn signal capable side mirrors would probably require getting into the door panel to tap into some wires, and I wouldn't want to do that to a brand-new car. I know there have been threads to discuss this before but I have not read through them entirely yet.

When you subscribe the maps are updated in real time along the route you are driving. If you stop subscribing the car reverts to the base map it had originally and you lose the updated maps.

Why on earth not connect your phone - with modern cars it is almost essential if you want everything to work as designed.

No one touching the bonus question? The headlights could be tricky... there were at least 6 different lighting "levels" for the 24 MY (half silver, half dark), and a color swap required the same "level" headlight to work properly. If you search Ford Parts by Vin, it should show what "level" is installed on the car.

Yes, here in the UK the connected nav is available as a 'lifetime' extra option at the time of purchase on some cars (not Mustang yet)
