Super snakes have been 200k plus for years… so it’s pretty much inline… ZR1s are going for 500k so that’s not a comp..

Exotics like the Shelby have always had a panache about them, much like McLarens and Koenigseggs, etc. But this one? Save for the copyrighted badging and a few bolt-ons, it is still a triple-priced Dark Horse!

At Shelby 6 months ago:

"Sir, market research shows sales scross the board have been slowing since about 2021 when inflation growth began outpacing wage growth. There's nothing that we nor Ford are doing wrong; customers just want more affordable options."

"OK, let's figure out how to make a car even more unaffordable than the Super Snake! At least double the price of a new Z06 or 911 and that weighs 4,000 pounds. Who needs a brand new McLaren, Aston, Maserati, or Ferrari when instead they could get a mustang with Shelby badges?"

The car looks beautiful however it is essentially a modified Mustang with parts that were added after they purchased the vehicle from Ford. That price though? That puts it squarely in the "Wouldn't even look at it beyond this thread and whatever pops up in my YouTube feeds".

Quarter million dollar spenders who want American + V8 will probably go ZR1/ZR1X over GTD/Super Snake R.

Ford and Shelby's only play left for Mustangs is milking boomer nostalgia until the boomer generation dies out (no offense to boomers on this board). The younger generations never experienced 1960s American muscle, nor do they care, and they can't afford these modern prices. Unfortunately I don't think Mustang has a bright future.
It's not just Boomers. I'm a Millenial and I bought a '24 GT without even having to finance it. I think a lot more people my age WOULD buy a mustang if they had the chance to drive it. Quite frankly, I wasn't even considering one till my old Bimmer was in the shop for a while and the rental car company they contracted with let me rent a mustang for a week, so I think Ford contracting with these rental car companies is brilliant.

Keep in mind that as most Boomers pass away (huge wave of thst starts around 2030 based on current projections), it'll be the largest wealth transfer in history to their kids. A lot of Boomers grew up poor, then made a fortune from inflation NOT outpacing wage growth for many years, and never adjusted their spending habits proportionally, so they’re sitting on top of huge nest eggs that their kids are going to get without having to work for it.

And most millenials are already in their 40's and already own homes so it's not like they need the money. It's Gen Z, the first time homebuyers, who can't afford anything due to the inflation spike in 2021 and raising of interest rates after, but most of their parents are Gen X who still have a lot of runway left.

Americans already have a problem with spending excessively. Just look at people buying the new iPhone every year that does the exact same thing. Or people with 330 credit scores going to dealerships trying to buy hellcats. Or the F-150 being the best selling truck despite 99% of those on the road not having anything in the bed of the truck nor ever even seeing a dirt road. The Maverick is the more practical truck by several measures, despite similarly having useless beds and "off road" features, but Americans keep buying F-150's.

I think the best selling vehicles in general are the RAV4 and CRV, both of which are similarly bigger than people actually need. I drive my two kids around in my BMW 3-series, and my wife with her huge 3-row Palisade complains that she can't reach back in the back seat to help the kids with stuff when they need something, but I can with my little compact car.

I say all that to say that there's a huge market for Americans overspending, and starting about 2030 it's going to skyrocket for about a decade or two (assuming no black swan event like another pandemic or socialist takeover), so there's some truth to the concept of "branding" and getting people inside vehicles or at least getting those vehicles in front of people to boost sales.

Throw practicality out the window. 99% of people can't tell you how much they spend in gasoline per year whether they drive a GT or a hybrid. The gas mileage thing is really just a fake reason people can use to tell other people why they bought their car, if they ever ask, without giving the real reasons like it looks good or makes them feel popular on the road.

in 2022 they were 180K ...thats a 45K jump in 3 years.....

(this one was 210K but they was an extra 30K for serial number #1)

https://www.mecum.com/lots/1145398/2022-ford-shelby-super-snake-widebody/

and I thought this was overpriced ......

it is cool its based on the Dark Horse but my guess is they are starting the the base Dark Horse which is what ...say 70K .....so 155K up charge for wide body, suspension, interior, and a supercharger......

Their problem is Ford is going to launch something here soon.... and I have a strong feeling its going to be 100K cheaper then this and beat it in both handling and acceleration ....

(same as the S550 where a GT500 CFTP was the far better vehicle at a fraction of the price compared to the SS widebody)

just watch this towards the end- the last SS widebody convertible.....well they removed the bracing from the convertibles and then added more power and things started breaking from the chassis twist....hence why I believe Shelby now just throws the parts at their cars.....no actual engineering.....

@MegaMan --thanks for the post and vids!

I really like the styling on it (very track/boy racerish). The graphics treatment left me MEH though. Calculating now how many French Bulldogs I'll have to dognap and sell on the black market to afford one of these winged marvels. 😉

@Upacurb beat me to it on the SSR moniker! WTF were they thinking when they tagged it with that?!

Even Super Duper Uber Snake would have been a more estheticly pleasing choice! 😅

I would be interested in seeing what kind of time it runs on the Nürburgring. Base price is more than $100,000 less than the GTD. For someone willing to spend money on performance, it would be a good comparison.

Maybe that's why Shelby made a super snake vert in 2024 but not for 2025. Shame, because I really like how the super snake vert LOOKS (the hood, the alternative spoiler, etc.) but it's not worth the chassis ripping in half one day from the power. Not a good look.
